Found this car yesterday. 44K original miles sitting outside and dying a slow death. Trying to buy car from elderly owner. Loaded car that appears totally original. Worst part is the top has severly rusted under the vinyl top. It's a GS! What do ya think???
In 73, the GS option only was for handling and included a rear sway bar. The Stage 1 option was the one with the big valve 455 and 3.23 posi. If it has that option, there will be a W in the vin. The regular 455 has a U in the vin.
I would save it, it's definetly more solid than my car, and im restoring mine, and this car would be even more so worth saving. I vote save it! :TU:
I would save it pending on the price????? :TU: What is the asking price anyway?????? I replaced the roof on my 73 and it was not all that hard of a job. I just scrapped a car that had a good roof on it also. ou: ou: ou: Tony
Pull the back seat and carpet to check what's going on underneath. If this car was in the rain all the time, changes are big that there were puddles of water on the floor boards, so bye bye floor section..... :ball: This car looks very original, it's a shame to see a low miles Boattail rotting away like this.
Not a clone You could always buy it so you own the GS serial number and engine. Then you could transfer the VIN plate and all the GS goodies to a regular 73 Riv then register it under the new VIN, and technically you'd have an actual Riv GS, and not a clone.
very very sad :ball: thats why I hate vinyl tops. Don't pay more than $200 for this and part it out bet that there is rust under the dash and and A piller covers.
How much do they want for the car. I'm looking for a set of '73 Riv buckets and the console. I'll go in with you if you are still interested on buying it.
If they are original, grab the wheel covers, I can't tell from the Picture, but I they look like the deluxe wheel covers.
That is worth doing the roof work to. It's all there to begin with, and the body itself doesn't appear to have that much rot or bondo. I've rebuilt both front pillars from scratch, the entire dash, and a good portion of the roof itself on my 67 Riv because of a vinyl top. Yet the rest of the car is surpisingly solid. On that 73, the easiest solution could very well be to replace the entire roof at the factory seams. It's not actually that hard if you get one from a junkyard that comes with the entire seam area intact.
Save the car, I will get mad knowing it will be parted  Saw another thread where someone found a Stage1 Riv (yes with the "W") and he wanted to pull out the engine etc for another car. There should be a law against such terror. Looked at a Stage1 Riv about a month ago in Phoenix AZ (DVAP) too bad it lost the original engine... Interior on this GS looks pretty ok, I prefer doing some welding and cutting instead of searching for interior parts. Get this one!! Or have someone sell it to fix her up
three eyars on since th original post and i'm still curious if the guy got to purchase the Rivira from the old lady and if so did it get restored. Any follow up ? bryan
Bryan, What old lady ? And I see a date of 03-10-2005 for the first post. Notice that there is Riveria in the thread title, and you type Rivira ou: What's wrong with the world today ? It's spelled R I V I E R A :Smarty:
