Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

    53 B for paint.

Does that not indicate Cortez Gold with a black vinyl roof?

    Bill -

I won't be bidding on this one. 70's are my first love and one 72 Stage 1 4speed is enough for me.

To me, interior shows too much wear for 19K miles.

Also take a look at how the numbers line up on the odometer. Indicative of??

    Yea - 19k I'm not buying it.

The thing is, unless it's a survivor car in my opinion whether it had 19,000 or 119,000 miles on it I wouldn't care. But when you cast a element of doubt like this...........I immediately step away from a car.

Thanks for posting all the pictures Chris.

I think I'm with PackerBacker on this one. Tough to believe much of anything on ebay these days. Plus the guy says he's owned the car since '76 and he doesn't know if there's been any work done on it since then? Something just doesn't seem right about this guy's story.

I guess I'll keep looking for the "right" one, probably a '70.

The guage cluster is incorrect ,where are the left pod guages ?
He must have installed dash tach himself.
Also, with the wear on the car it is 119,000 miles
Beyond that ,very rare and desirable 72 Stage 1 4 speed car!

I finally heard back from the seller of this car. Turns out he's owned the car since '96, not '76 - so his listing makes a little more sense than it originally did. Who knows, I might actually bid on this car......

On the pictures above, where on the car is that rust? I'm not familiar with how a GS looks from the bottom (spent plenty of time under my pontiac though!). Looks like rust by the suspension mounts??? Is that a problem area on these cars?

The seller also emailed me a bunch of stampings/codes from various drivetrain parts if anyone's interested.

    Deciphering codes??

The seller emailed the following numbers:

    Intake:
    H19 8-1238323-1

    Rear:
    LWB3052

    Engine: (Off front of engine)
    45H494960

    Transmission: (Found 3 #'s)
    3978764GM
    P2503B
    392566

Does anyone know if these are correct for the car? I have no idea on the intake and couldn't find any info in the 3 books I have. The rear seems to be the correct rear based on the "LW" in the code.

The engine - if this is the correct engine shouldn't the number match the VIN? Did he just take the number from the wrong location? No idea on the trans figures either.

I guess the books I have are not very helpful:confused:

Any thoughts? If you have advice on where to find this info, whether in print or on the web please let me know.

And thanks for everyone's help so far. Hopefully one day I'll be able to repay the favor.

Engine - 45H494960 is the motor serial -
    4 - Buick
    5 - 1975 model year
    H - Flint Built
494960 - serial # of the car the motor originally came with.
Non-numbers matching motor. Decode castings at www.buicks.net

    Trans - P2503B
    the 'P25' is probably 'P2S'
    P - Muncie
    2 - 1972 Model Year
    S - November build
    03 - 3rd day
    B - M21

The trans VIN is right above this P2S03B number. Try to get it to see if the trans matches. Decode Muncie numbers at www.5speeds.com

    Here's mine (P0R28B) -

Thanks a lot for the info Marco - very helpful, though disappointing that it's not an original car.

It's really too bad the seller didn't do his homework a little better before listing this thing. I seriously think he was simply overwhelmed with emails requesting info..."in the weeds", so to speak.

If anyone out there is still interested or following this car, here is a link the seller provided.

Did any one on the board spend the $15K and change for this thing?
