In all, expect to spend about $3000-$4000 once the rebuild is complete, not including fluids, belts, hoses, etc. All hard parts like pistons, rings, bearings, cam stuff, machine work, etc.

i see what you mean now. the bore dia. is 3.8 on those yeah, others are 4.o and are just too big. thanks for pointing that bit out. i miss some simple stuff sometimes

What do you think of the rest of that kit. it comes with bearings, cam shaft, i suppose those rings are wrong if the pistons are at least. . . im really trying to avoid machining the block, its not too bad.

Grab that^^^ re-ring kit, specify .030 rings in the little drop down menu where it says "Required Options" for the piston rings. If your bearings either say STD, or do not have .010, .020, .030, etc on the backsides of them, they are standard size bearings, go with standard on those. I bought this for my SP engine, all decent quality parts. Has the thick gaskets, so be aware of that. Buy that re-ring kit, and the 340p pistons, (or the flat top pistons listed above, keep in mind they're for a V6, so you'd need 2 extra) and you'll be good to go.

Again thanks everyone. Summit really has a solid selection of pistons. I have ordered that connecting rod from ebay, to replace the damaged one. The main difference in the pistons i see on summit are the compression height and dish size or flat top. i found the 1734 pistons you mentioned and more, going to post a few for you guys to look at.

Going to call summit tomorrow, also might call rock auto to ask them about their rebuild kits, see if maybe they will let me upgrade/switch the 4.00 pistons to the 3.8 on that site. Trying to take my time and get the right parts, heres the one that looks right on rock auto. Also that re ring kit looks like a solid alternative to the rock auto rebuild kit.

Do yourself a favor, just get either the flat top or the 340p pistons. All the other pistons have such low compression height/deep dish you will be well under 8:1 compression, the thing will be a gutless turd. Either of those two pistons (remember for the flat tops you HAVE to order 2 more, they're for a V6, so you need to order 8 for a V8), and that northern autoparts rebuild kit, you will be in business. And keep in mind, ALL the pistons you listed were standard size, you WILL need to have the engine bored due to the pitting you described. Honing won't remove pitting. The .030 pistons have a separate part number.

The 340 pistons, however, are ONLY available in .030 size from summit.

Well its been a while… bad southern weather and other projects delayed this one a bit. But, its all back together and i took it for its first test drive sunday. Ended up going with a Northern Full rebuild kit, about 520, replaced all bearings, all seals, camshaft, pistons/rings, lifters, rebuilt oilpump, did a home valve job (hand lapped) new plugs, points/condenser, and 3 cracked exhaust valves. could still replace a few hoses and belts.

Ended up getting a replacement rope seal that first one was crap, but the second was rope as well, just pressed better. Painted the block, got a Timing light today from harbor freight. Thanks to all who helped

First road test drive, Next steps are new white walls and a little body work, and paint.
