Upside down...sigh. Its like a crap shoot on weather these pics upload right side up. Disclaimer- this is a GS plate. I have to think the GSX one is the same

Ok thanks. I’ll look at it when I get back out there probably early AM. Or midnight...depending on how anxious I’m feeling.

I wouldn't be able to sleep if my grill emblem was off....

This is a great thread.. it’s got parts shortages, deadlines, dramatic hack job repairs, and a very frustrated shop foreman ;)

    Adam,
You can see the backing plate and placement on page 11-6.3. Now that is for a GS emblem, I don't know if the one for a GSX emblem is the same or not.

I had seen the locating pin on the grille, and assumed it would be that easy. I'll just have to eyeball it. Might steal the backing plate off the other car.

Crunch time - Can't wait to see it, and Adam (& of course Mike) who hopefully won't either still be assembling it in the show, or sleeping under it:).

I stole the entire air cleaner from another car for now.

So I fired it up tonight...before I could really set timing and break it in, the radiator and heater core both have leaks. Like, the large fitting on the heater core is completely cracked ready to fall off. Engine sounds like it's running on 7 cylinders. Hopefully that clears up with a fine tune.

I doubt I'll be able to find a radiator but I'm going to try tomorrow morning.

Quitting time for tonight...need to install the rear wheel opening moldings and polish and install the rear windshield moldings. Rear bumper is ready to be hung, front still needs assembled. I think I worked Mike to death today. We built in a day of buffer, so if we get hung up tomorrow, we can still make it without issue.

As far as the emblem goes, we eyeballed where the orange 72 GS emblem is, and drilled a hole for the homemade backing plate on the X emblem. Worked like a charm.

I'm pissed about the heater core. Should have just replaced it when I had the ENTIRE front end off the car. Probably going to bypass the core for now and toss the radiator from the orange car in it so we can drive it in and out of the trailer.

Adam, I don't know if you figured out the GS grill here's a picture of the back of a 72GS Grill with the emblem installed IMG_2176.JPG

This is a couple of pictures of an original 72 GS grille, notice it is not a high gloss black.

The paint I used is satin, so hopefully it calms down gloss-wise.
