    DL,
The red fender that is on Richie's GSX (My old 71 350 GSX) was off the red 71 350 GSX that you guys are talking about. When they restored that car they put on 2 new fenders and Glen was selling the originals. The one fender on Ritchie's car had some damage, and the red fender was built within a week of his original fender, so we bought it because the date codes matched.

That Red 71 car was supposedly purchased by the same dealership to replace my old car when it was sold. The red car was a stripped down version when it was built. This 72 car was probably ordered for the same reason once the red car was sold.

    Guys,
This is a real documented 72 GSX, as far as what parts are on it the car is 41 years old and I am sure carries some scars. It still has a 72 front bumper, grill, and headlight doors.

I also was offered the Red car back in the day, but was not interested as I really do not like Red cars. I still have some pics of it somewhere from back in the day.

If one was to acquire this car, would it be a bad idea to change it ( Buckets/Console) or should it be kept as is? I know it's not a BB, but it is one of 44. And an X.

As rare as these cars are I think it should be left as it is. But that's my opinion.

    Mike is right.
When you buy one of these cars you are actually purchasing the "history" of the car, not the car itself.

If you decide to change the "history" then what are you actually buying? At that point you would be better off buying and/or building a clone.

    Richard,

The red GSX was a 350 auto car with a bench seat and hardly any options. It was converted to a 4 speed and a 455 stage 1. The original 350 engine still resides in Mrs Miller's garage in NC. Yes, you are correct, it did not have the tach and front spoiler when I looked at the car back in 1990 but it was fairly solid.

    Cheers

    Thanks Ken

This 72 GSX should be restored the way the factory produced it...... forget the bucket seats.

Any super rare car like this 72 GSX needs to respected and restored properly.

Thank you Richard and Duane for the insight, it's so often that you hear "it's only a 350" and they just don't bring the money etc etc.
Seller stated he had the shifter and console too and I was curious what the right thing to do would be.
Of course, then, you'd have to add back the vinyl top.
Rare, indeed, but would take someone with talent or money or a love of that color to do. I hope it gets the love it needs.

it is a super rare car..but it probably has little to no intrest, because of what it is..a base car

the only way a guy can do a car like this, is if he falls in love with the car, able to a lot of the work, and does it for self satisfaction and keeps and enjoys the car....because he loves the car, and is not buying/building for an investment...

i have 3 cars, less than 20 of each built...and i'm the only guy that cares or wants them...and thats ok with me...

I would say some what close on the price. Even old car price guide lists a #5 car at 10 grand but who knows for sure since these cars are so rare and seldom come up for sale. It should be saved and restored to as equipped condition.

What about the missing matching numbers motor.I would sure think that would lessen the value by quite a bit?
