Selling my 1972 gs stage 1 convertible, in flame orange, with white interior and white top, previously bought and owned by my dad, ira malek since jan. 10, 1983. I have original hemmings book and ad car was bought from. ws block, bb trans, exhaust through rear bumper. All original except for the top which was changed to white from black before we bought the car. There were 232 stage conv. made in 1970, 81 in 1971 and 81 in 1972. There were only 30 flame orange stage 1 convertibles ever made. 25 of them were optioned identically and called zone office cars. Then there were the 5 special order ones. This is one of them. There was only one made with a black top which is this car and this car has body side moldings of which 5 or less had according to the stage 1 registry. It is the only flame orange one made without ac. My dad put a gsx rear spoiler in it in the early 90's and had it painted in the original flame orange nitrocellulose lacquer.
It has 99,200 miles and like many of the 455's after a while, a leak develops between the block and the exhaust manifold because as we know, no gaskets were used. John Csordas, president of the northeast chapter gsca said that's all the sound is which is minor.
Unfortunately, my dad took out the points distributor in the early 90's and installed a regular gm electronic one that doesn't advance as much as the stage 1 distributor did. Only about 16 degrees mechanical rather than 20-26 for the stage 1 distributor.
All the original old timers from the north east chapter gsca know about this car.

pictures to come soon. I CANT UPLOAD ANY MORE PICTURES. I TRIED. WEBSITE STOPPED ME AT 10

i have the pictures of the original jan 1983 hemmings book and ad it was bought from.

    60k or best offer.

    thank you,

    robert malek

Looking forward to the photos and price. All the reference material I've seen over the years say that a total of 81 Stage 1 Convertibles were produced in 1972 along with 728 Stage 1 hardtops.

I contacted the OP and the price is 100K or best offer. I assume it is located in the New York area.

Is the car still registered in your father's name or yours now?

It's presently registered to the ostrich in your picture. Your ostrich cleared up the title issue and it's fully owned by your bird at this time.

Looks like a "twin" of my small-block GS. Won't last long. Regards, Upstaged in SW ( snowy)Michigan.

True upstaged. I noticed that. The most common compliment is prob the color. It is for me. I think those orig flame orange ones looked great. We didn't know quite how special the car was when we bought it. The no ac is great too because with vintage air it takes up a tiny fraction of the space in comparison to orig. Henceforth, I'd always rather buy one of these without ac and install the vintage. Didn't do it but someone else may.

So why tell me that you were interested and request pictures in the first place?

Very cool car Robert. I know it's not easy letting go of a car that has been in your family for nearly 35 years but good luck with the sale.

Actually, it's not polite to call and email privately for photos and details within only 3 minutes of posting, act like you are incredibly interested and then publicly reject the car for no reason. If you contact someone privately and they give you all details, you don't say nothing to the seller and then reply on bulletin boards that after viewing the pictures, you " aren't even interested." as if the pictures depict a basket case of an automobile and/or you are just jerking someone around to waste their time. This isn't deemed appropriate by any seller of any car. Anyway, moving forward, no one has to buy this car from me and no one has to sell a car to ryan either. Deal with whom you wish.
