So the old girl has been sitting for bit. Went to start it today and the first key turn I just got the dreaded selenoid or benix what ever it is I forget I guess popped out then just spun not engage to the starter. The next try it worked fine. Now today it may do it a few times them start fine. May start fine a few times in a few times in a row then. Just hit and miss starting.
I guess I need to order a starter?

no, just replace the bendix or starter drive it is also called, it is what kicks the starter gear out to the ring gear. you will have to remove the starter and take it apart, it's alot cheaper than a starter

    alec296 i need another buick

I would say it’s the solenoid over the bendix. The solenoid is a magnetic switch to push be bendix out or retract it.

I prob will just replace the starter. I am sure it is old. Where can a good quality one? Source?
Stupid side to today's ride. My car has new tires on it. Up the street this week a HUUUUGE tree was taken down. The street was clean when I drove up it today in my truck then the Buick. Well in the Buick I hear sticks busting as I drove. I looked behind me and did not see anything. Kept driving. When I get out on the road I hear that sound when you have a road in the tread when you are driving. This sounded like wood. I thought it would go away but it did not. So I pulled off and looked and saw nothing in the tire. So I kept driving. I got on the HWY and could here it getting louder then the sound of a tire going down. Pulled off, saw nothing. Got it towed home. He said try to air it up maybe a stick broke the bead seal and it went flat. I was about to fill it and looked and saw a puncture in the side wall about an 1/2 from the rim. I have never seen this happen before. So I have the who knows how old spare on it now so I could get it back in the garage. Going to buy two tires so I can put one on the spare. The spare on the car is like the stock rims on it, did they not use plain jane rims for spares back then?
