    Hey All,

SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM, MANY NEW PICS POSTED!

I am considering selling my 1971 Skylark GS Stage 1. A body on resto was completed by a shop here in Philly in February 2016. The car is 100% metal with new quarters, floor section, inner fender wells, rad support, etc. Car is a factory (have build sheet) stage 1 four speed car which means it's 1 of 114 made in 1971. It is Cortez Gold with a vinyl top and a saddle bucket seat interior with PW and P-locks. It has the N25 rear bumper, a consolette and it is an A/C car (parts missing and not hooked up). The drivetrain is NOT ORIGINAL but is all correct. The motor was purchased from a builder in CA almost ten years ago and has a TS stamped block and 1971 coded stage one spec'd heads. The rochester is correct for the application and year as well. The resto needs a few things to be really perfect, like the armrests and front interior kick panels could be nicer. The rear package tray still has the shag carpet and Jensens in it cause that's how I liked it in the 80's!

The car was my buddies first car in the late '80's and we street raced it (I had a bunch of other muscle cars also but this one beat 'em all like a drum!) and generally abused it. The motor finally gave up in 1995 (spun crank bearing) and he parked it. It sat until 2005 when he needed cash and I finally bought it off him with plans to restore it. Life kept happening (7 kids) and I just never did anything but buy parts for it. I finally met a guy who owns a body/resto shop that I hit it off with and we agreed on a number to get it back together and all steel. Ended up being twice that but that's how these things go I guess.

I know that if this were a restored numbers car it'd be a real big number based on the rarity of the stage one 4 speed in 1971. I am looking to get something north of $30k for it so I don't lose too much money. Really looking for closer to $35k. If the consensus with the group is that it's not worth that much, I'll just keep it forever and no hard feelings.

I keep seeing GS 350 or 455 ragtops in decent shape going for $15-20 and I would probably rather have something that the top goes down and has an automatic. My days of racing up and down the street are behind me and I just don't get the same thrill from the crazy acceleration like I used to. A trade plus cash might work!

I know I need to post pictures and I promise I will. But let's face it, nobody's committing to $30k or more without a face to face anyway, right?

I know that some guys on here just CAN'T WAIT to pick my car apart and generally trash me and it. I have procrastinated on posting this as a result but it really is time for one of you guys that loves these cars to enjoy this one. Once a month drives in the summer just aren't doing this baby justice.

I live about 1.5 hours north of Cecil County in PA and there's a chance I can get there. But I could also show the car at my house as some of you guys pass through on your way.

    Thanks and Pics will follow!

    Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delay getting pics posted. I forgot that the driveway was being re-sealed Saturday and we had to keep off of it all weekend. I will be able to pull the car out of the garage now so I am hoping to have some more posted very soon. Here's what I had on my phone.

Chuck, I will call you this afternoon on my way home from work.

    Thanks

Re: '71 Stage One Car for sale - Added Pics!

    Hi Guys,

Sorry it took a while to get these posted. Car is still available. As mentioned in initial post, I am not in a big hurry to sell, but I do believe that it's be better for someone to own the car that will really get the use of it (shows, cruises, etc.- I just don't have time).

    Hey All,

Car is still for sale. I have a consignment guy down the road from me asking to take it on. He has a lot and uses Ebay and ships a bunch of old muscle cars overseas. I'd much rather sell it my self to someone from the Buick community. Being a 71 Stage 1 4 speed car, I thought there'd be a lot more interest than I've had. Just a couple of guys that inquired but never followed up or even checked the car out.
Consignment guy says he thinks he can get $30-35k for the car. That's $27-31.5 to me. Anybody interested in the high $20's?
Let me know. I might take a shot at Ebay myself also with a classified ad.

Had a request for the build sheet. I am attaching a bunch of pics, including one that shows the L75 code for the Stage 1, the M20 for the 4 speed, etc.

We pulled this from the top of the gas tank in 1996, so it's not perfect.

I also am including the info from the motor when I purchased it it 2008.

Sorry about the pics being upside down and sideways. I had them all saved on my computer right side up, but as soon as I upload to the post, they revert back.
Not so great with Technology here. Better with a hammer...

I would be incapable of selling that car and with 7 kids it's hard to believe they'll speak to you when it's gone? If I had the cash I'd be on my way but that's not the case, something I was wondering. is the original block sill around, a spun bearing doesn't seem like a terminal breakage you might want to try to recover it just to offer it up will add value, if yu already thought of this I meant no offense. Good Luck

No offense at all Pete! The bad motor was a stock 455 and not the original either.

Sadly, none of my kids share my love for old cars and busted knuckles so the car won't be missed.

As it is, there's been little interest in it (no one has even come to see it or asked for more pics). I won't give it away for nothing so at this point I'll keep tinkering with some detail stuff and see what happens next spring.

    Take care

    Tom
