Thanks for the info. Great to see the full qtrs I am sure it is common knowledge for the frequent visitors to this site but news to me. I did not see the core supports listed.
"Everyone and their brother has a yellow one." "It's simple. You either have one, or want one." I don't know about that, some of us want either a Blue, Silver or Gold one.  Duane
And some of us wouldn't care if it's an X or not while we are slapping the snot out of it on the racetrack....  Duane, I have a nice 71 grille I have to get to you soon. It's all safe and snug at the moment. Will you be attending Yardleys picnic in May??I am afraid to ship grilles anymore from all the horror stories I have seen the last couple months..
Received a call on the car this morning and the guy asked for the rest of the vin....why? Next he informed me that he had decoded the part of the vin I had in the ad and that this was not a real X and I need to correct my ad. He knows because he collects 71 GS cars. I guess I made him mad laughing at himo No: I have his phone number, maybe I'll post it and see if anyone knows this genius. This is a very nice car to build, if anyone is interested, we will build the car and will accept trades. This car needs to go to a Buick nut.
Ok I add to this My resto shop quoted me 55 per hour in 07. Most are more some are up to 120 per hour. A normal resto taskes between 650 hours and 1000 hours at 55. That on the low side of 650 hours is between 35750.00 and 55000.00 before parts and materials. My best guess is 65 to 70k for the resto bill and then the price of the car. Then thers the 71 455 cortez gold X in my home town thats very sweet( fresh resto with very few miles, numbers match and ready to drive in the mid 50K range. Seems like a no brainer to me.
Since this is an "obvious fake" Mark, I'll take it off your hands!  :moonu: Too funny, and I bet the Motion car was really a chebby.:idea2:
Nice car Mark. Educate me. Did 71 GSX cars not have a hood tac? Never really looked at a 71 hood. All the 70's I have seen had the hood tac I thought. Correct code drivetrain. No lead on the original drivetrain?
In '71 the GSX package gave you a rear wing, side and hood stripes, GSX decals and a GSX dash plaque. The hood tach, front spoiler, etc were ala' carte. The handling package was optional as were 15" rallyes (14" standard). There's even one well documented '71 X out there with the standard chrome driver's side mirror (non-sport) and no passenger side mirror. Some bench seat, column shift, non-sport steering wheel cars as well.
Nobody has to worry if this car is real or not. I have copies of the original "Production Order Chassis Paint" buildsheet and it proves the car is real. This is one of the few 71 GSX's (approx. 20-22 cars) with a buildsheet. Duane
So, In truth we can only verify that there is 20-22 71 GSX cars, all others are proven as a low car numbered SCO.
"So, In truth we can only verify that there is 20-22 71 GSX cars, all others are proven as a low car numbered SCO." Until the Microfilm is found that is basically the truth, however there are a few 71 GSX's without buildsheets/documentation that are known to be correct due to original stripes etc, such as Ken Lisk's 71 GSX and the Bittersweet Mist car that was just restored last year. The only thing we can prove about the other low body numbered GS coupes is that for some reason they were SCO cars, not that they were GSX's. That's what makes Mark's car special, there is no doubt about this one. Duane
We already talked about this at length. I looked at the car for only a very short period of time. (less then 5 minutes) It would require a lot more detailed pictures, checking to see what areas were repainted, which parts were replaced, checking date codes of parts, and the removing of certain pieces before I would even consider it as possibly being real. Especially with it being a color that was not supposed to exist as a GSX. It was easy to see that large areas were repainted, and some original parts were replaced, so care must be taken to find out which "exterior" areas/pieces are still original to the car. What you are talking about would require time to do, with no guaranteed results. Duane
