my 71 came with factory gauges, and tach. Since I cloned my car into a GSX,with a hood tach, what is the correct clock in the dash ? the 12 hr one, or the 24 hr one ? I just purchased the repro from TPP, and after reading on here, I`m not sure I have the correct clock now
Question, Since the '71 & '72 GSX option was dramatically changed (from '70) to an "a-la-carte" framework for most of the parts which were included in the '70 GSX option package, was a clock even automatically included in the'71 & '72 GSX option? I mean, I've seen plenty of '71 GSXs purported to be legit and original which had very few options (std. interior, std. chrome drivers mirror only). I am trying to remember more details, but I am not even sure that the Rally Pack guages were automatically included in '71 GSX package as surprising as that seems. I believe the stripes, emblems/decals and the rear spoler were about the only std. parts to the '71 GSX package (all other options available at extra cost which were included in the original $1,195 GSX '70 package).
Here is a '71 GSX production & options/equipment break-down. I've seen this before and thought a Member here did the research. I am having a problem trying to post the .pdf file, but here is the web address/link =====> LINK This would appear to show that not all '71 GSXs had Clocks, or rallye Clocks or Rally Guages.
I don't see how the percentages on that sheet could be accurate. We don't even know how many 71 GSX's came with 350, 455, or Stage 1 motors. OK, I see all the numbers/percentages are from 40 cars. I would bet this is from the registry and is based off only the cars that are registered. Duane
To answer the original poster's question, To order a 1971 GSX the dealership used the appropriate "Wholesale Car Order" form, and then added the GSX options to it by hand. Therefore as far as instrumentation is concerned, a 71 GSX could have had the following combinations, 1. Idiot lights with no clock or Tach 2. Idiot lights with a clock (12 hour) 3. Gauges with a Tach 4. Gauges with a Rallye Clock (24 hour) Duane
