Hi Dana, I just saw this post & think I know this car & it's past racer/owner. Does this wagon have any logos or lettering down the side of it? Our family at one time owned a GM dealership, when I was a kid I would drive to LaCrosse Wisconsin & pick parts up at Walt Hammond Buick . I always liked to pick parts up there because they had a Race Buick 71 wagon in the showroom ! One trip I watched as they were testing the line lock in the back lot. If I remember right the car had Dragon Wagon down the side & a dragon type graphic & was painted lime mist.

The driver was Jim Carlson I think he was a son in law to the owner of the dealership & salesman at that time. I do remember Walt telling my dad that that car is the best draw I have ever used to spark interest in our sales dept.

I just saw that car and the others last week while up there on vacation. The place is right next door to Jerry's Auto Parts in Roscoe, IL on the frontage road along Hwy. 51. Cool car. I wish I'd had my camera with me.

How do you have a big website / dealer site like that and you post pics of that wagon with a craigslist camera angle? You can't even see what the car looks like?? Hmm 10k for a car that you can't even look at? :Do No:

How quick would that 350 be out of that car...

I realize this is an older thread. But I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about this car. (I hate that!)
It was offered to me about two years ago.
Anyway, as I was not able to sleep and the brain going nuts, I thought "hey there's a picture of a green wagon in the back of an old Kenne-Bell catalog...same car?
Turns out it is the same wagon!

The notes for the picture says "Jim Carlson's 350" Stocker".

BTW it reads "DRa'N WaGON" on the side...

Just FYI, I purchased this car about 9 or 10 years ago, from someone who inherited it. They didn't really know anything about the car. It had a 350 in it, which lasted about 6 passes, and blew up spectacularly! lol. It's an 0/sa car. I've been in touch with Jim Carlson, the original builder and driver of the car. I rebuilt a correct motor for it, and have raced it on and off. I have many other race cars, so I don't drive it much. The IHRA index is 13.45. The quickest I've gone so far is 12.71 in good air. That's not too bad for a 4080# wagon with a 350 and quadrajet. It has 48,000 original miles on it, and has been a race car since the mid 70's. Everyone loves the Dragon Wagon.

It's great to read that the car is still around and still in race trim. I spoke to Jim Carlson recently and he told me about the wagon and sent me this old photo:

I see it says 13.10@101 on pic You notice it looks like he has no helmet
Also says 350 in that area I think it looks like it says 350 auto which is probably trans, But I imagine it was a 455

350 with stock heads and intake. Everything has to be correct numbers down to the carb. Has stock lift cam with lots of duration. Nothing that special about the motor, no porting allowed. 350 trans , stall, and 4.88 gears. My son has a similar motor in a k/sa 1972 skylark. Same cam. Motor is stroked .003. 4.56 gears. Has gone 11.93 @ 3550#.IHRA index is 12.95 on that combo. We've had Dean Oliver from deano carbs do both carbs . Picked up about a tenth from the good running carbs we had.

Nice. Thanks! At what RPM do you shift & go through the traps?

It shifts by itself from 1-2 at about 6500. I shift 2-3 at 6700. Goes through the traps at 6700.
