You can also get the same NOS medallions and brackets with tabs from CARS. Not sure if the have the chrome pieces, but those are usually the easy parts to find. I think Mitch Romanski sells them too.

Good way to go if you don't need a whole set, as I think the medallion and bracket together are around $30.

Be interesting to see how much these go for.

I see the first set are Scott Miller's.

    Info on 71-72 centers

    Hi guys..

I made the rounds looking for correct 71-72 centers a while ago.

I talked with Mitch Romanowski. He only makes the fluted center caps and inserts for pre-71 cars. he does not have the smooth caps for 71-72.

I also talked with the CARS people. They do have repro caps with the correct silver insert. I think the price was about $35 each..set of four, $140 plus shipping.

They do not sell only the inserts for 71-72 (that's what I wanted...)

So, if you need just the inserts, you may have to buy the whole new cap from CARS.

    I haven't found any other sources..and I haven't sprung for the
    $140 yet.

I'm waiting to see if any new info pops up.

Anybody have any better details, please post it

    Thx,

    Stanley

    Stanley,

I just bought mine from CARS in July. I purchased the medallion (insert), part # 1236441 Group 05.871 for $19.25 and the retainer, part # 1242018 Group 05.871 for $8.50. At that time, they did not have the entire cap for the 71, only in black for a 72 and later. Luckily, I already had the chrome center cap, so that was fine for me. Don't know what the current situation is now.

I think their website is www.oldbuickparts.com

    good info

    Chris..

    Thanks for the follow-up.

I had called in April/May..and got the answer I reported.

At that time, they had the whole cap with silver inserts...the guy went and checked the color.

I asked and he claimed that they did not sell the parts you describe..not out of stock, but didn't carry them at all.

    Go figure!

I am going to follow-up with another call to them next week..and I will report again what I am told.

BtW, I believe black is for 73-77..silver is for 71-72.

    Thanks,

    Stanley

Let me ask you this: since my reserve hasn't been met on the others, if I "Buy it Now", I won't be backing out of my "contract" on the 1st set will I?

There is no "contract" on any item if you have not met reserve.

    a quickie

    Hi..

    A cap question..

Can you remove the caps from the front..?

Or only by taking the wheel off the car..?

    Thx,

    Stanley

BTW..it hit me that maybe we may be talking repro vs NOS at CARS..I'll clarify this when I call

    They POP right off!

    Just don't steel mine.:ball:

  15. Re: They POP right off!

I don't know if someone else also makes repros, but Mitch Romanowski's caps do not push on the outside of the rim with retaining prongs to hold it to the wheel. His repros have an anti-theft mounting mechanism, where the wheel has to be off the car to mount or remove the cap. It is held on with a ss strap bolted across the back side of the hole with nylock nuts.

  16. Looks like you made a great buy there Brett. I haven't seen NOS silver background caps come up for sale before. :TU:
