What is the difference between a 71 and 72 front bumper? did 72's have the two bumper gaurds on them or was that an option? Thanks
The bumpergaurds were an option as far as I know. The only difference I'm aware of is the rubber strip around the front of a '72 bumper. They had to drill holes for that, so as far as the core goes I believe that would be the only difference.
I don't think I've ever seen rubber strips on the front bumper, do you have a pic? The reason I ask is there is a rechromed 72 front bumper for sale and I want to know if would look correct on my 71.
ok, on the very corner of the bumpers top side. I think the 71 and 72 rubber bumper fillers are the same.
look again Hi ,Look again because that shiney chrome makes the rubber strip on this 72 bumper in picture hard to see.The rubber strip on the 72 bumper runs the entire length of the bumper. It is about 3/4" wide and expensive to replace.I think you were thinking about the rubber in the top corners that all skylark bumpers have.
OK that is hard to see in the pic. So The 72 bumpers have extra holes in them all across the top edge. Thanks for the info everyone.:TU:
By the way Chris if you could get a really good deal on the bumper it will fit your 71 fine as the holes for rubber strip is the only difference. You might be able to swap for a 71 later.
