Just for fun and information, not trying to bash anyone's listing: So here is a 7040246 that popped up on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Buick-...70-/281382742159?ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123 Looks great at first glance, certainly a nice clean looking carb. who can list the reasons why this is not an original stage 1 carb? Or do you think its real?
I'm sure I am missing lots, but the primary pull off is definitely wrong, and the throttle hook up looks wrong also.
I saw that one also Ken. Secondary accelerating air holes Fuel filter housing gasket location Ken, didn't you also find that the correct original baseplate didn't have bypass added?
The stamping isn't straight. Plus that date code isn't one of the "verified codes". Buick made those carbs in batches. Why would it be stamped "0070" if Buick ran a batch of them in "0150"?
well that was fast. You all are on the ball. Definitely the wrong pulloff I do look for the secondary POE holes to be below the airflaps, and in 1970 there should be no idle air bypass, from the 7040246 carbs I have seen Good eyes to catch the fuel inlet gasket being the wrong one Mark. The inlet is the 1"-20 style (1971+) but should have been 7/8"-20 (1970-). It proves absolutely that the main body is a restamp, regardless of how good the stamping looks. This also means that this is likely an 800cfm unit when it should be 750. The numbers looked a little "off" to me, but I couldnt quantify what was bothering me about them. Maybe their alignment. I wonder about the calibration - I bet it was left stock. Even if they swapped the 1970 jets and rods in it would be all wrong for the bleeds of a 1971+ carb.
