    Adam,
I checked both the Wholesale Car Order Forms (both the original & revision 1) and both revisions of the assembly manuals I have, and none of them list anything except whitewalls. There is no info regarding single or dual stripes.

The assembly manual does list the part numbers for the tires, so if you wanted to do the research and see if you could cross-reference those numbers, you might find your answer.

Below is the 1970 tire code sheet from the Original version of the assembly manual. There was also a later sheet with 1 more revision in the revision block, but the letters are too hard to read so I gave you this one.

Here is how that page works,
You look up the body style from the chart on the left side of the page. Yours would be (44637-67) and look at the codes on that line. Those sizes/types were the only tires available for that model.

You said your car came with oversize whitewalls, so that would be tire letter code (H).

Then you go over to the right hand chart and look for (H).

    (H) shows as a "H78-14, and lists 4 different manufacturers of that tire. Uniroyal, Firestone, Goodrich, & Goodyear. Any of those companies could have supplied those tires to the assembly plant.

Inside each spot under the company name is the part number for the tire. That number, if you can cross reference it, would give you your answer as far as single or double whitewall.

***Generally what we, and other judging entities, look for on the show field is any available type tire with the correct tire size cast into the side of the tire. (However, there are a few entities that want to see the correct size tire from the build sheet, but they are few and far between.) (NCRS comes to mind.)

Therefore a Red Line should have a size of "G70-14" cast into it and not a Metric size, and your original (OS Whitewall) tires should read "H78-14".

That's how it works. Hope I helped cut thru the confusion a little. At least it gives you something to work with.

I guess you & Mike can decide what to do.
