Jim , I am waiting for my guy to respond . Looks legit . I think it was just like the one I had but for 1970 . Stamped the same . If the car was here I would post a picture .

How awesome to have THE original Quadrajet guru chime in on here! I just recently bought your book.

I have an early 70 Stage 1 carb with this (7037895) casting number. The stamps are the more conventionally recognized 1970 pattern 7040246 LK with a 2399 date. This carb has the early baseplate with the third Phillips head screw between the secondary throttle bores.

In comparison, I have a later dated (3239) Stage 1 carb with casting number 7040988. This carb does not have the third Phillips head screw through the baseplate.

    Your carb certainly looks legit.

Anyone know the earliest 70 Stage 1 production date? I believe 2nd week September is the earliest I have seen.

09A Jim. Engine date coded 2nd week of August, 1969.

The earliest carburetor I have personally seen and recognized as legitimate is 1929 or 11 July, 1969. Cars started appearing in August as Brad states.

09A would be first week September correct?

Correct. Date codes on my engine "hard parts" are all grouped around the middle of August.

OOPS! Yes it would. I think the Stage 1 registry has record of cars built as early as 08B.

Anyone know what the plant code represents? Aside from the Carter QJets, all of the Quadrajets built for production or service were done in the Lexington Avenue plant in Rochester, NY.

After doing some Googling, it would appear that the plant code was used by the vehicle assembly plant rather than the 5,7 or 8 digit carb part number for an easier way to identify what carb went on which engine. It had nothing to do with the Rochester Products plant on Lexington Ave.

I've seen very close dates on several 1970 Pontiac Ram Air carburetors, 0200 to be exact, so they did make them a bit prior to the model year run.

I have not seen any 1970 Pontiac Ram Air carb with a 3 screw baseplate to date, but I try to never say never with this sort of thing. I would imagine that the factory at times would try to use up parts left over from the previous years(s) to save money, so we will on occasion see deviations from the "norm" with this sort of thing......Cliff

PS: good to see you posting cousin Jimmy, we'll have to get together for lunch again next time I'm in Columbus....

Indeed. Or I need to get off my lazy butt and get up there to visit you and Debbie. I haven't seen you since the funeral.
