Dano you can go to Marcos stage 1 reg. Site for the options it's the last 70 reg.heres the info. Body# 293929 trim 128base black bench dealer 27-889 Brekhus Buick Rapid City S D invoice $3361.32!!!! A1. B3 D1. F4 H6 L2 U5 and that's it I think this car was not ordered this way but just sent out to the dealer? How do you determine this? Anyone? Also Gary Foster who's doing the car wants to put tinted glass in, instead of original clear glass because the car will look so much nicer. I am thinking I agree. What do you all say? It can always be changed if a new owner wants

Soft Ray tinted glass still gives it a nice finished look... Even without AC. Even the plate glass windows in my Model T's were re-done with SR tinted safety glass. To me, clear glass is about one step above plexi. JMHO. Ive driven too much at night with clear glass and it sux. Your eyes will love you for putting tinted in! ws

DL so if nothing is on the docs it was not ordered by a customer? Buick may have just built it that way . What are your codes and colors and build date? Are you doing yours now for maybe bg next year? Also what's your thought on the glass choice for afire red/ black int. 70 kind of a hard choice until I would see it on a fresh paint/ restored 70

IMHO if the current glass is born with the car and in nice shape I would leave it at is. If not then do it.
How many 46 year old cars have there original glass?

Thanks! I'll check it out. I should have another one here soon ('70 Stage 1 4-sp.) to add to the registry. Keep the glass IMHO (I would anyway), but L2 is Soft-Ray glass (all glass, L1 would be windshield only). It could be a factory screw up. Have you checked the date codes on all the glass to see if they match the car or do you have a build sheet? Things happened. I have a car with a D99 painted top as indicated on the Cowl Data Plate (and the car itself), but apparently Buick never invoiced the dealer for the option (clerical/accounting error) so it doesn't show up on the report and likely wasn't on the window sticker.

On a special ordered car, the last line on the Wayne Roberts would read "*-Sold" as on the attached. Note the other one does not include that. As an aside does anyone know what "2-0 Unknown" is or could be? I suspect the car (same car w/ the missing D99) came with an SCO axle which on this particular car would have likely been no-charge, but I don't have a build sheet.

I don't believe Buick just built cars. They were either sold (I.e. Special ordered), demos (dealer or internal Buick such as the infamous Stage 1 Zone verts), fleet (e.g. Police or rentals) or ordered for stock by dealers to sit on the lot and are typically ordered by the dealer's General Sales Manager (GSM) based on what they think will sell.

Coincidentally(?) the Gulfstream Blue Stripper car I mentioned that's been for sale also came out of SD IIRC - Not sure if it was Rapid City. Maybe a Buick contingent there in '70 or a dealership that thought they could sell these or a GSM that was a car guy or a Buick dealer across the street from a Chevy dealer that wanted something to complete with LS6's? I thought I had the report on it too, but it must have been in the ad and I forgot to screen shot it. I'll email him & see if I can get it & post if I do. From memory it was 128, A1, B3, DN, F4, H1, L1 and that's it. If it wasn't such a basket case or if it had a #'s drivetrain or if the guy wasn't so off base on his price I'd own it, but being an original Stage 1 car, Rust-Free, and a stripper (ironically the car is in Las Vegas:)) are it's only redeeming factors. I don't recall if it was a special ordered car or the price but I'd bet it was real close to yours.

Guy I'm. Not using the 46 year old glass which is a tinted front and the rest is clear, I just need to decide if I want new tinted all around but not oe or go with the way it came from the factory, new glass , but I have been told I will have to reuse back glass cause it is not avail in clear. Dano i think L2 is tinted wshield and L1 is all tint look at your pic you posted shows L2 tinted Windshield only I don't have any * 6 at the end of the docs so it must have been ordered by dealer for the lot! I heard when I bought the car the dealer also had a 1970 stage convert on the lot too.

You're right! Sorry, got my L1/L2 backwards.:Dou: Anybody seen a car besides Brad's IIRC the Stage 1 show car that didn't have at least L2 Soft-Ray windshield? There has to be one out there. I'd go back with what it came with and if its the original glass I'd use it if it cleaned up/polished out ok and otherwise depending what your doing would get a correctly date coded new windshield but that's just my opinion. Interesting about S1 vert. I'll see if I can find out about the other car I mentioned.

Wow. Getting close. Just read through all this. Thanks for posting. What did you decide on glass? I'd have to go with how it was made. I have a very oddly optioned car (also tinted windshield & rest clear) that doesn't show as "sold" but there's no way it was ordered for stock. It was all manual data entry back then.
