Restoring and refinishing my power steering set up on my 70 GS. My question is on the two short bolts that attach the aluminum P/S bracket to the head. The illustration manual says they should be 3/8-16 by 1 1/4" long. But I cant tell what kind- flange head or a regular bolt. And as a bonus, what should the head marking say? TR? Thanks
There were at least two flanged bolts. The ones that were in contact with the aluminum bracket only. The others are standard hex. The bolts would dig into the aluminum without the flange. Does Todd’s sets have flanged?
They do for the aluminum. The long through bolt is regular hex with a little bit thicker washer included on this bolt.
I was able to rummage through boxes of engine bolts and came up with the correct flange bolts. My power steering set up looks like 1970 again.. the finishing touch was Steve Caruso's repro stamped return hose and correct crimp clamps. I promise I'll take some pics this weekend and post them up
Nice to see you have time to work on the GS Jason. Not spending all your time driving around the purple flirp!
It really needed some attention under the hood. I did quite a lot to it this year despite barney and other things that took up a majority of my summer I was thinking that there isnt one thing on that car that I havent touched at this point. Well, except for the clutch and that's on the list...
