Nice but 160k for that X it isn't going to be changing hands, at least not with the jacked up air cleaner lid and whatever is going on with the Radiator, looks like a 4row that's too tall or something. Surely it didn't leave "Then and Now" like that?

It is a 72 style radiator. With no AC you would expect a 3.64 and not a rear 3.42 ratio.

Where is the radio delete on the paperwork? I must be missing it. I am interested because I have never seen this on a GSX.

The GS Historic paperwork does not show a radio option so if a radio was not ordered it would have gotten the delete plate. Even an AM radio was an option that had to be ordered.

    Incorrect heater hose bracket color.

    Incorrect dip stick color.

    Incorrect alternator brace color.

    Incorrect spark plug wire layout.

Incorrect hose clamps and maybe hood bumpers.

Incorrect radiator top plate cushion/bumper setup.

    Vacuum advance tube MIA.

"Date code correct 455 freshly re-built for this restoration"

    What do you say?

I wonder if Wayne missed the radio code when he transcribed the data from the microfilm. The paperwork posted is not factory. It is Wayne's own product. It would be odd to have no factory radio on a GSX but I assume possible.

Mike Nielsen's old GSX is the only one I've ever seen w/o power steering, so it's possible, but I agree a radio delete GSX would be odd. Mistakes were made I'm sure when ordering these cars - I know of a relatively low option '70 Stage 1 4-sp that came with a rim blow wheel when I'm sure it was supposed to come with a Rallye wheel. Either someone checked off the wrong box @ the dealer or someone @ Buick entered the order incorrectly.

It's also happened (I have a documented example) that the factory failed to invoice the dealer for an option in which case it wouldn't show up in Wayne's documentation. Wayne said it drove him nuts as we knew 100% based on the data tag that the car came with the option but he didn't show it & he concluded that Buick simply never invoiced the dealer for it.

I say way too much $ for it. For that price for an NOM, it had better be perfect. I think Dave Johnson's set the record for an NOM GSX and it wasn't even close to this.

I say you are absolutely correct counsel. And I will confirm the hood bumpers are incorrect too.

I restored a yellow GSX about 10 years ago for a guy in WI. Stage 1, 4 speed, no power steering, and he sold it a couple years ago for around $160,000 so I wouldn't be surprised if this one came close if the right buyer came along. Also, the car I did was an all original, 82,000 mile car that he had purchased from the 2nd owner who'd had it since 1972. When I started it had the original paint, interior, engine, trans, everything, with the exception of having had the left front fender replaced early in it's lifetime. I took tons of pictures and measurements of the stripes and duplicated them as exact as I could when I laid them out to paint, yet he lost points at the GS Nats for incorrect stripes. Another thing worth mentioning is that this car had never had a consolette in it, just a boot on the floor, and there was no evidence of it ever having one on the original carpet or anywhere. He also lost points for that as well. I know, rules are rules, but I also believe in 'never say never' when it comes to these old cars. At the factory things got overlooked, they ran out of parts, used what they had available in order to get the cars down the line, etc. At least he still scored a gold the first time out at the Nats.

Not having the original engine in it anymore, I would be surprised if this car brings a strong number.

Dead on. All these people who worked back at the plants back in the 1960s and 70s all said during strikes, they were gathering whatever parts they could to put on the cars to get them down the line! GM's motto was " We dont build cars, we make money." Thats why sometimes it cracks me up at car shows when people say oh no it didnt come with this steering wheel or this option, etc. When the people that worked back then including several friends of mine who worked at various GM plants back in the day tell you they were just throwing parts onto vehicles to get them produced, then you know it has to be true! And i am sure there are also errors on both the dealer and the factories which resulted in vehicles getting built incorrectly! Quality control is a lot more stringent on the manufacturing side today then it was decades ago!

GSX is on eBay now. I'd guess it could have been ordered w/o a radio although that would certainly be rare. Only options it has besides GSX, automatic & Stage 1 are PS & Tinted windshield.

I notice a thing that I always wonder if its factory or not , and its evident with this one on Ebay right now. It was restored to near perfect level, but look closely at the chrome seat trim, the little bullet ends that finish out the side trim is almost always missing on cars, is this omitted for a reason, never came from the factory, or everybody just don't care?

Just curious, the tire board is black. Is that correct for just GSX, or just 1970 or all GS's (1970 to 1972)?

I don't know, but the trunk paint looks way darker than original.
