Anyone have a photo or description of the location for the mounting tab attached to the tube? My tab is mangled, can be straightened in a vice, just need some direction. The only threaded hole I see even close is on top of the head above the #5 exhaust channel, but if mounted there, the tube is not flush with the block. Thanks, Tom
Here's a few pictures of mine. This is a 70 455 with 67 400 heads and manifolds. I am unsure if they're all the same or not. Hopefully someone that knows will speak up.
Thanks Dave, that gives me something to go on - I'll check it out in the morning. From my photo, I was trying to land on that threaded hole on top, which doesn't allow the tube to seat in the block. The manifold bolt hole may give me the extra drop in the tube. Thanks for the quick response. Tom
Now I'm confused. Have had both a 1970 gs 350 and 1970 455. Both had dipsticks that went directly into the block. No extension tubes? My current 70 455 has no dip stick extension tubes like the 71 and later did? Wth?
70, as far as I know, used no tube. My '70 is like this. Not sure if it was a mid year change or '71 change.
I have a 70 455, and a 68 430, neither has a dip stick tube, both go into the block, so i checked two other buddy's with 455's. no tubes on either of them, not saying they didn't come with them, but ............
Both of my 70 GS's have tubes. The Aquamist car is a march build and the beater is made in June. my 69 430 does not
The stick in the photo is different than mine. Would the tube and stick vs. Stick only be a set unique the the style?
Not sure about tubes vs no tubes but the bracket to head is a 5/16 coarse, Todd at Diecast set me straight before I installed a 1/4-20 heli-coil. , whew! I bought my tube/dipstick from Mike Phillips at Automotive Machine and Performance. I haven't checked the calibration yet.
Just a little clarification. The dipstick and tube in my pictures are from my 67 gs400 engine., as well as the heads and manifolds. The block is a 70 455 SF block supposedly for an electra...casting date 11/19/70.
Does your oil level match the one on the stick? If no threads than no tube required? Any for sure for '71?
both our 68 gs400 and the 70 motor that came in my car had no tube. just stick in bock. tore apart many core motors very few had tubes
