Does anyone know if the original speaker is mounted via a bracket? Reason I ask is because I want to replace with a custom sounds DVC speaker. there are two different model numbers that are identical speakers. the difference is one comes with a bracket and is 15 dollars more expensive. guess which model # they say is for the 70 gs. I rather not spend the extra money for a bracket if I am going to find a bracket in dash already. the model #s are DVC 4010 and DVC 3001. Hector
The original speaker is mounted with a bracket. The bracket is not part of the speaker, it clips on the magnet. If the new speaker has a different size magnet, you can sometimes modify the bracket to fit.
In order to avoid loss of optimum power transfer to the speaker you would need to use a 2 to 1 ratio impedance matching transformer.
Here is the original front speaker from my '71 GS with AM radio. Notice that it is a 4 x 10 speaker built on a special rectangular frame. The second picture shows the actual bracket that holds the factory speaker in and how it also fits on and holds the speaker I bought to replace it. It is actually two speakers on the one frame and it is 4 ohms per speaker. It will be driven by the converted factory unit I bought with modern AM/FM, Aux input, USB input and pre-amp and sub outputs.
I am not hooking up original radio, though it will remain in place. I will have a hidden system, which I think is 4 ohm, like the speaker I am considering. hector
