I have a 70 gs 455 convertible. The car has AC and all the components look original GM. However, the Sloan papers do not show that my car had the AC option. What gives? Was it added later? Maybe a mistake by Sloan? How else can you tell if it's original to the car?
Could of been converted to an A/C car. o No: Its been done. The opening/ cutouts in the firewall are way different though. If the Sloan says it didn't have it, Id lean to that as being correct. Without removing the heater box to look for welding scars, or without finding the build sheet in the car, Im not really sure how you could verify it independent from the Sloan or POBF
Oh and welcome to V8Buick! Be sure and introduce yourself. What you could do is open the trunk and find the date codes on the trunk filler panel and quarter panels. They're stamped in the trunk channel area. For example, my 72 GS's quarters are stamped "044" which is the 44th week. Now compare that date code to the production date on the trim tag and make sure they are within the right dates That would be a piece of the puzzle in determining weather the car was converted or possibly re-bodied with an A/C tub.

Could so be a mistake from the factory and Buick never invoiced the dealer for the option, and it hence it wouldn't show up on the report. These things did happen - I have a car that tbe D99 Painted top wasn't invoiced, but it's on the trim tag. I could be wrong, but I thought Sloan could provide a copy of the original order form too. I've seen examples & assumed that's where they came from.
Acc. to Sloan, sometimes the options might have been changed and the dealer invoiced twice. Unfortunately, only first option selection is on the records. I have trim code 185 'pearl white buckets' on the cowl tag, but in reality I seem to have 188 ie. 'black buckets' installed. To me the interior looks original and has weathered together with the car. At Sloan it shows that my car was invoiced twice and the guys at museum considered it possible that the interior color was changed at the factory after first invoicing... -JJ-
Its got a white interior but black buckets? Did you check the date codes on the quarters, trunk lid and filler?
No, he has black interior with black buckets, rather than white interior with white buckets as noted on his cowl tag.

Seems to me the interior was changed to black. It had a white interior when Carroll St Auto sold it as per DL's ad from years ago. Id be curious to see the date codes
Of the many 1970 BB GS cars I have had over the years, I have had several that the factory documentation was incorrect. Like you, I had an all original untouched 70 GS Stage 1 with factory AC and Sloan docs did not show the car had AC option, however rest of option load on car matched the documentation. Also, I have had several other 70 BB GS cars that had options that were not on documentation and vice versa. This can all be explaining by the fact that a data entry person had to enter all of this data into the system and as you know if people are involved mistakes will happen.
