TorqueMonster1 Making My GS Great Again!

Im restoring my "early" 70 GS and I am changing the idiot lights and clock to a gauge cluster and tach. First, I am under the impression that because mine is an early 70 that it will need "tall letter" tach to be correct, is that correct? I assume my current speedo is "tall letter", its hard for me to tell the difference unless I'm looking at both side by side. 2nd, I believe that all (70-72) of the gauge clusters were the same, no tall letter or regular letter, is that correct? I have been looking for a 70 "tall letter" tach but have only found one, and it was pricey. IF I can't find a "tall letter" tach and have to go with new "repo" who should I get it from? Year One, Original Parts Group & CAR's all have them and they are close in price. Do they all get them from the same supplier or are they different suppliers? Is one better than another? Have any of you had experience with any of them? Sorry for the long post. I just have a lot of questions about this and want to get as much info from those more knowledgeable about these things before I turn my money loose. Thanks! Mark

Yes, early 70 gets tall letter speedo and tach. There is only one repro tach manufacturer. I repair tachs and have worked on my share of them and don't like them. They have improved some recently as they have gone to a metal housing. If you can find a good OEM one I would suggest that but repro will work if not.
