    Hi all,

Im a DIYer with limited mechanic know how. I got a new quad but ran into an issue with installation. When i tried to remove metal fuel line fiittng from carb, tube started to twist. I started with regular open end wrench and then with flared wrench without success. Decided to disconnect metal line from fuel pump, but there is limited tool space down there to get enough torque on the fitting. When i couldn't get it off, I closed the hood and left it for another day. Then on another day I started car and notice i had a gas leak. Did not have the time to check source of leak then and have not started car since. Don't know if leak is at fitting or a crimp in the line. Any thoughts and ideas on how to loosen the fitting at the pump. I am working on the ground with the car lifted on a jack. Don't have a car lift. Have rebuilt carb and new carb to pump line ready for install.

You'll need a large wrench on the filter housing at the carb and if the nuts rounded off vice grips on the flair nut. Work the nut back and forth until it will spin free. The line wrnch is your best bet for the fuel pump. Crow foot wrench and a 3/8 ratchet / 3" extension is another option. Bring it over and I'll give you a hand.

Thanks Briz! Would love to swing on by but probably not advisable to drive the length of Florida with a gas leak, even with a super economical 455. I tried to buy a short line wrench set but could not find. The crow feet wrench is a good idea and i will try. Since I'm installing a new line, not too concerned about getting line off from the filter housing.

For the carb- 1" open end wrench on the carb filter housing to keep it from moving/ stripping and a 5/8" flare nut wrench on the line. On the pump- a flare nut wrench will fit on the pump. I think its 3/4" size. And a flare nut crows foot with a 3" extension on a good ratchet for the line.

Would be a good time to update your ratchets to the fine spline, 80 tooth variety. You'll thank me later.

Just make sure you do not strip the threads on the front of the carburetor holding the filter assembly.

When installing the fuel line fitting on the carb, leave the bolts holding the carb a little loose so you can wiggle the carb some as you put the fitting on. Makes it easier to get those fine threads to line up without crossing them. Once they are started bolt the carb tight and continue to tighten the fitting.

Just cut the line with cutting pliers, it's going in the trash anyway, and yes hold the nut on the Bottom of the pump or you'll be replacing the pump too
