Hi guys the heater blower is not working in this car I just picked up. I found what I believe is the plug for the resistor in blower motor housing but it's only two prongs and is attached.to a round 2 plug.fuse looking thing does this sound correct sorry new Buick guy here

For an AC car the resistor array is often in the case under the hood.

    Howdy Scott!

A.C. or not? With AC its in the plenum just below the POA valve. Its a brown plastic plate with 2-3 screws. Take that out and inspect for a broken coil (resistor). Its really probably a bad high speed blower relay on the fire wall, the little silver thing with wires just behind the carb. If you can get to it, you can hot wire the blower to the battery for a quick run test too. Itll only run on high by doing this but itll prove the blower motor.

You can also pull the relay plug and jumper it (key on) from the fat RED wire (12 volt supply) to the others for "speed checks". When in doubt us a voltmeter or have spare fuses! ws

Another potential issue is the ground for blower motor. The black ground wire can be seen in a picture posted above.

Look for a burned connector at the blower relay.

Interesting I didn't see that black ground wire running from the purple wire to the firewall maybe it's missing

Also in your picture I see two black hoses running from the firewall in my car the bottom Ones been cut off any idea why that would be?

Most likely, your heater core is bad and would leak into the foot well of the passenger side of your car. Rather than take on the nasty job of replacing it, someone has likely just blocked off the water supply. This eliminates the hot water you need for your heater to function.

Ok that explains the shutoff valve Somone has put in the line?

So it doesn't work at any speed? Not even high?

Picked up a relay today. Have not installed it yet. Will see what happens.

If the blower doesn't work on HIGH, I doubt its the relay. I hate to ask a dumb question, but did you check the fuse? And by check I don't mean visually, check on both sides with a test light

Apply power to the black wire with the orange stripe that goes to the blower motor to see if the motor is even capable of working

I actually forgot about that ground as well. the motor is mounted in the fiberglass plenum housing so it needs a dedicated ground wire as well! ws

Follow step by step from the shop manual. Lotsa 1/4" drive stuff, LED (Not hot and blinding) lights and nut drivers. Had a pal helping me change heater hoses on my '73 GS and as I turned around he was yanking on the hose with both hands. Just as I said "Don't do that..." ... well you can imagine the rest. ws
