I have a 1969 Skylark Custom and am looking for wheel/tires I plan on using 17x8 Boss 338 Gray wheels w/4.5 BS. I don't want the tires to look like I only have a large rim with 1/2" of tire. What size would fit my car without any modification. Attached is a pic of a car I found on the internet which is the look I want, but don't have any information on it.

Not enough back spacing for the 68-69 cars. You need 5" minimum on an 8" wheel.

I have 17x7 Boyd Coddington Smoothie II's rims and 245/45/17 tires on the rear of my 69, and 225/45/17's. up front. Backspacing is "standard", I think that is 4 inch? I didn't want to wait to have custom backspacing.

If they had more backspacing, you could get more tire on the back, but without it, I had to trim a tiny bit out of the wheel lip inside the rear fenderweill. I think there was a thread here were someone else researched it and figured out how much backspacing you could fit. If you search on "69 backspacing" you might find it.

The 1967 cars need more back spacing as do the 68-69 cars. This thread is therefore relevant to the OP,

If you are going for 17 or 18" wheels, they list offset for most of them. Look for 1" (25-26mm) of POSITIVE offset. That will center the rim in the wheel well allowing you to use the widest tires possible.

Chris I like the way your tire/wheels look; I did find the wheel I wanted in 17x7 with 4" BS, however there is a +2" offset would these work without having to trim the inner fender wells.

Those figures don't add up. A 7" wheel is actually 8" wide, so 4" B.S. would be 0 offset. Maybe it was + 2mm offset? A + 2" offset would be about 50mm, and that would make the B.S. more like 6".

Yup, that is what I thought. You need a wheel with +1" (25-26mm) offset.

I went with the 17x7+2mm, with 17/55/225, they fir great I still have about an inch between the inner fender lip & tire.

I like the 17's on these cars because of the flat panels and seductive rear quarter wheel housings :puzzled:

Here's what I'm working with. Dunno what tireto look at to keep the fat look.

13 inch from inner to outer qrtr lip. Face of rotor/drum is 7.25 on left, 7 1/8th right from the frame/inner rear wheel well.

If I get 2014 Buick Lacrosse 8jx18 ET 42 it works out to be an 8 inch wheel with 5.625 back spacing. The question is the wheel lip and tire width. By my calculations above, I have about 1.3 inches to work with inside, 3.375 outside.

    8-5.625= 2.375+7.25-13=3.375 outside.

    No?

Racenu, that is a beautiful car. I already have 15s. Doing a restomod and protour mod... I'm looking for the larger wheels after New uppers and 2 inch drop spindles. 15s are not going to be possible for the front.
