69 Riv Interior colors discovery

A few days ago I posted a question to some of the Riviera guys on V8Buick inquiring if they knew whether the long console between the bucket seats in a 69 Riv was painted an interior color or black as I had purchased a black console to install in my blue 69 Riv. Several sources said it gets painted, one said the color of the carpet.

Well, in the mean time I purchased an R-M color chart off Ebay for the 69 Riv who furnished GM paint during that time. I was surprised and pleased to discover on the back of the paint chip is a detailed description of the 69 Riv interior color combinations. See below. It mentions all interior parts that are to be painted and the correct colors. I followed the description for the long console and it answered my question that a long console in my 51 exterior color, Twilight Blue Irid, the console gets a dark blue paint which I purchased today, an SEM color that matches the bucket seat backs, and seat side trim pieces.

My suggestion for anyone trying to figure out the correct interior colors to try and find a paint chip chart for your year Buick and perhaps it will have the same info I found on the 69 Riv sheet.

The information is in the showroom book. Its got nothing to do with the exterior color.. What color is your interior?

Jason I have the Twilight Blue dark blue metallic exterior and the interior hard plastic and metal painted surfaces are dark blue. The soft surfaces like upholstery and door panels are the light blue similar to the blue in your photo of the showroom book.

I was trying to confirm whether a long console from the factory was painted the color scheme of the rest of the hard vinyl surfaces or black as standard. I have confirmed through the RM paint chart and a chart from Sloan Museum on BCA site that my console and the rest of the hard surfaces should be a dark blue. The half console in the front seat photo below has a soft vinyl cushion top so it is painted the same color as the seat upholstery. you can see the seat back and lower plastic trim piece is the dark blue.

I am not familiar or have access to the showroom book you have shown but it you have a listing for the 1969 Riviera and can confirm the dark blue it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

If you look below the swatch, you'll see what the interior color coordination should be. The full length console should be dark blue matching the carpet. The short non operating console should be light blue as it is in your car currently.

    PERFECT, thanks.

I did notice the 65 Wildcat listed for sale elsewhere in the Forum has a blue long console to coordinate with its interior which confirms GM did a complete coordination of the interior colors. The Wildcat is a really nice car and too bad I have too many cars, not enough resources, and getting too old or I would make an offer for it.

    Have a great weekend:D
