    Chris asks,
"The 69's came with the seat button in the middle. On the reclining passenger seat, even in a 69, the seat button is on the side. So the question is, on a 69 driver seat, for a car with a passenger reclining seat, would the seat button also be on the side so that it would match the passenger seat?"

Come on guys, think about this logically. For the 1969 models GM changed the bucket seats and put the button in the middle of the seat back. The older "67-68" seat design was redesigned and replaced so where would they find one? The recliner was probably not updated because it was such an obscure option, and GM could not justify doing it.

Do you need me to spell it out for ya, or do you get what I am talkng about?

    Duane --

I'm totally down with your logic -- same way I understood it.

I'm just curious about what is up with Chris's latest car -- I rather suspect someone changed out the driver's seat to match at some point, but I'd love to know what the build sheet said.

Who knows -- if it's a real early car it may possibly have come from the factory with a 68 style driver's seat -- stranger things have happened. If it's a later car -- probably not real likely.

Chris -- what's the body number?

Makes sense Duane, but couldn't they have found it in the same pile that the passenger seat back was in? I mean I would have thought they would have plenty left. Wouldn't they typically stock these things in the parts dept. for a few years? I would think that if a customer with a 68 seat back needed it replaced under warranty or otherwise in 69, they would be able to fill that order, wouldn't they? They would have had to either make more of the passenger side as the orders came in or save them from an earlier year..... Or maybe the dealer would just order a 68 seat back and replace it when the car came in. Seems to me as a customer I would rather have matching seat backs/releases then one new and one old????

67 68 seats are the same except the 67s have metal trim, the 68s have plastic

all cars equipped with a pass recliner have 67-8 syle seats so they MATCH!

a-body and b-body are the same except for the tracks, no difference, maybe in 71 or 2 in a weird car like a centurion, but if the seats in a big car look like a chevelle style seat, its the same...

Ive owned 5 cars with pass recliner from the factory...they all have had 67-8 style seats in them

i have pulled 3 sets of 68 Gran Prix (b-body) seats with a pass recliner, changed the tracks and bolted them in skylarks with a seat cover change...

ever saw a strato bench? the one thats a bench but has bucket seat backs with an arm rest? in rivs and toronados??...that recliner mechanism bolts into chevelle style seats..so ya get a pair of 67-8 seats, pull a recliner mechanism out of a strato bench.and your in for like half...

did you know 67-8 buckets driver and passenger seat are the same...you take the backs off, and you can see the backs are identicle from left to right, and you can swap the lock and buttons from side to side on the seat, so you can take a 67 pass seat take it apart, swap the button and lock from the right side of the seat to the left side of the seat, and it become a drivers seat....so if you have a spare 67-8 pass seat, you can turn it into a drivers seat, and buy a recliner and you have a pair..i find alot of spare 67-8 pass seats floating around..and they are hard to sell..but its a beginning of a recliner set of seats if you cand find a seat ...( i have a spare 68 seat for the pass side if somone needs it..non recliner that can be converted to a drivers seat) ever notice how drivers buckets are ragged out but pass seatas are nice?

    just some thoughts..

I forgot something, 67 seasts are not equipped for 68-9 up style head rests, so a 67 seat could be converted to a 68, im sure ya figured that out,

68s are ready to acceopt 69 up style headrests, because in 68 they where an option...so f ya want to make a 68 seat work for 69 up you have to do a little fabrication, or steal the tubes out of a 69 up set of seat to add headrests...
