Congrats Duane, can't wait for the final pics when it arrives, It has been a Fun ride watching this thread and the cars progression, well done Duane and Nick.
Thats cool of the Camino X. I would pay extra for a limited edition of this Motion car. Someone need to reach out to those model builders.
Some people are asking me how I made the model. I did it the same way I built the car, I got a 1/18th scale model of a GSX and an El-Camino, cut them up, and grafted them together. Simple. If I think about it I will post a pic later today showing how I grafted the body pieces together. This is the type of thing that happens when it's snowing outside and you can't work on anything. Duane
Here are some pics of how I built it. Tim Garland wanted to paint a car to match his brother Richie's 71 Cortex Gold GSX, so they used pieces of a Black and Saturn Yellow GSX to build it. I ended up with the extra pieces, so I got the black body and all the 70 trim. Then I got a 70 El-Camino model and started cutting. After I fitted/epoxied the bodies together I did a little body work and painted the car. Enjoy. Duane
DL, The real one was easy, I just kept attacking it. I would go so far until I hit a problem, then I would start pacing. Once I solved that one I would go like gang busters until I hit the next problem, then the pacing started again. I just kept going until it was done. Worked on the car for 12 months, then took 6 months off, and finished it 6 months later. You know my Father would have liked to see the 69 car, but he was really proud of the X-Camino. When it was just finished and we were waiting for Ritchie to come pick it up so we could take it to the GS Nationals for it's first showing, he told me how proud he was that a group of guys took a pile of parts and made it into something like that. He said that was something he had always wanted to do, but never got the chance, and was glad to see that his kid got to do it. He also said I had a really great group of friends, and was really proud of them. That's what it's all about. Duane
OK guys big day today, Nick dropped off the car around 5 PM today. He unloaded it and we put the front fender emblems on. Then I started working on the license plate and the spare tire/jack assembly in the trunk. Still need to do a few things with the spare, as I have a 5th Hurst wheel and want it facing up. That should be done maybe after work tomorrow. After that will be a run for gas and then a couple trips around the block. Still need to do a few things yet, but it is basically done. It sure has been a while since I drove a stick car but it won't take long to get back in the groove. I have been looking forward to this day for a while. Duane
You know it. The funny thing was the car didn't phase the neighbors a bit. They are so used to me showing up with loud cars they never even gave it a thought. Just said hi and kept going about their business. Just running it back and forth in the driveway I can tell it's going to be a monster, and the Thrush mufflers sure do bring back memories. Now for the long hair and the denim jacket with the patches on the back. Duane
Congrats Duane, looks great can’t wait to see it in person someday. Must be a good feeling to reach the finish line, I can’t see it yet but I’m in the race.
Yeah well, I had a 66 GS once, and really liked that car, even though it appears that only Walt and I do. Duane
That's true, I was just thinking local. By the way, nice selection of balls. The next time someone asks me what colors they came in I am going to refer them to you. Duane
My first thought upon seeing it on the trailer/ Appraisal /Insurance on the absolute rarity of this gorgeous automobile! I've always been a stepchild enthusiast......having previously owned a 68 GS400 ! This one has knocked it out of the park ! just wow !
