Ken, I don't know if any magazine has been contacted but I have not heard from anyone. Most of their research could be done off the posts on this thread. I just want the car done. After that I will gladly talk to anyone who wants to contact me. Nick has called the car "E-Motional Rescue". That might be a good title for an article. Duane PS. As far as Musclecar of the year, there is also Mike's 72 GSX that Adam is restoring right now. Maybe someone could do an article about 2 very special Buicks.
If HMM gets off this current ‘Look! It’s a Chevy!’ kick. Three damn months now they’ve been putting a crate engine in a red Chevelle and featuring first gen Camaros... Patrick
I found a better picture of the 69 Buick (looks like a Skylark) in front of Motion Performance. It shows a 70 Chevelle in the shop getting worked on behind all the Firebirds. And I found both a 68 and 69 vintage pic of cars in front of Baldwin Auto. Thought they were cool. The 67 Chevelle in the pic has white painted drums behind what looks like American Racing wheels. Looks like she has red lines too. When Jimmy found the 69 car the drums were painted white. I'm still un-decided about whether I should paint them white or not. Duane
Bill, Here are a few more vintage pics I found. In the pic of the Nova it looks like a crate motor in the shop. Imagine that. Enjoy. Duane
Does your car have front disc brakes Duane?? If so,I would pass on the white paint, but if it has drums,I'd paint them. You can always change it later if you didn't like it..
Pat, The car has power front drums. Right now Nick has them black. In the mid 70's we ALL painted our drums white if we had "Cragars" so I am not sure if they would have done that to this car or if it was done later. I may paint them white later. Duane
MCACN I believe looks for ideas for themed displays. Maybe they'd do a Motion display next year. Seeing a Buick in there would raise some eyebrows.
Yeah, They have asked me to bring my 71 Blue GSX to their event twice, and I had to refuse. There was just no way I could spend the time or money to make that happen, and then I went and bought this car to make matters worse. I am hoping that Zach can fill the "Blue GSX" car spot this year. Duane
Daune, The thought of towing my GSX to Chicago in November on an open ( which is all I have) trailer. Really doesn't sound very appealing to me. LOL Cant wait until I get a chance to see the 69 motion car. Looks great as your projects always do. Hopefully you will be at BG this year. If so. Looking forward to seeing you buddy.
I was hoping to and had made plans but life sometimes throws us a curveball. Sadly no, not this year.
Duane, Though I'm disappointed to hear I won't get to see this car at BG, it makes what you guys have done no less incredible. To have such high quality work and attention to detail progress in such a manor is a feat regardless. This thread has been one of the absolute most enjoyable to follow in a long time. Hats off and keep on trucking! As far as deadlines, man, I know the feeling. Getting my car to Norwalk as planned was an absolute nightmare. And though I made it and have zero regrets, I still cringe thinking about it. I had to reassemble the engine and break in the cam/lifters an hour before loading it up and leaving for the event. Now I'm on a similar path with BG, a disassembled/unpainted car trailer and a car missing much needed components only a matter of a few weeks out with very little available time to devote to it. Kinda makes ya wonder what this insanity is that so many of us suffer from and yet for some reason willingly come back for more.... Again, absolutely stellar job you and Nick are doing, I'm in awe.
Nick and I thank you. "Kinda makes ya wonder what this insanity is that so many of us suffer from and yet for some reason willingly come back for more...." I guess I could say we do this to ourselves because we don't know any better, but the real reason is we do it because that's the way it has to be to get the job done. Duane
Duane - hit me up on my cell tomorrow. I'll PM you the # - Wife saw me surfing V8 and just remembered that "a Buick guy .. Dwight ? called while you were away last month .." .. Oh, and I may have "found" something of interest to you - a supposed-to-be 1/1 68 Cutlass Motion L.I. drag car looooong hibernating and recently drug out of hiding. Guy I know just got it .. from the guy that knew where its been hiding (and badgering original owner) for 30+years and finally scored it from his kids after he passed away
Here are some more progress pictures. The picture of the rear axle still needs the "ET" sticker installed on the pumpkin cover and the posi tag. The chassis stickers also need to be applied. Nick also sanded/polished the white stripes on the hood. Enjoy. Duane
