Big mistake people make. Paint car all together at the same time. Someone decides to lay the doors on a horse flat cause the can paint it easier. Or fenders. Then when cars together. Panels don’t match.
Bill do you think the car will ever be in inclement weather after all the work that is being done? LOL!
Bill, The fenders were from Arizona so there was no rust there to begin with. I know Nick shot some POR15 into several areas but do not know if he did that to the fenders or not. I will have to ask. I do know he primered inside the fenders. I spent all day working on greasy grimy parts, namely the P. Steering box, P. steering pump, and the lower steering column shaft, amongst other things. Had to break the pump apart because I saw it was leaking. The reservoir was slightly dented where the pressure hose goes into the back and the O ring was not sealing right. Got that straightened out. Then I noticed the box was leaking at the seal near the rag joint. I'm like, really. Does anyone on the board rebuild these? I can pop off the snap ring and replace it if I had a new one. Maybe I will start a new thread about this so more people see it. Duane
Duane , ALL those reservoirs have dents ! Lares can build Your box , or hector If his guy is still doing them. Just tell whoever to NOT paint your box so you can detail it correctly .
What a cool car, can’t wait to see it completed. You guys are doing awesome work, and I appreciate all the pictures. Nothing like a good frame off thread!
Don, Someone had been in the power steering pump before and didn't do a good job putting it back together. It looks like they either dented the reservoir (at the fitting opening) and didn't fix it, or the O-ring moved before they cranked it down. Either way the O-ring didn't seat right and leaked. No wonder this assembly was such a grimy mess. I can tell you this, The part of the frame under this never rusted. Duane
Just curious if there was a gallon jug of pwr steering fluid in the trunk when you bought the car because "that damn reservoir always seemed to be low". lol
Ken, I hear ya. I remember the motor being out of the car and the power steering pump being wire tied to the fender with the hoses still attached. I don't know if there was any fluid, but when Jimmy picked up the car the trans and a whole bunch of other parts were in the trunk. Duane
Bill/George I don't know what you guys are talking about. I thought I was building a Wawa Coffee Getter!!! Duane
This stuff is Great (3M Rust Fighter-I), I used it on my convertible and will be using it on the other two.....
This is moving faster than one of those shows on the Velocity channel. Chip Foose has nothing on you two!
Nick and his buddy started mocking up the motor today. The pistons needed larger diameter valve clearances cut into them for the bigger valves. Duane
Don't you also have to "notch" the bore on the intake side for valve clearance. Been told in the past because of the smaller bore hurts intake flow CFM's.
