I am trying to get my parking brake to work in my GS. I tightened the cable, but now when I engage the brake it pushes the 4-speed shifter into gear (and since my 4-speed has reverse lockout, it gets into two gears and I have to get under the car to fix it). I have seen that turbo 400 cars have a hole in the cross member to lower the cable. Should my 4-speed GS have that to? It is very possible that the cross member in the car is not original to the car.
Here are some pictures of where it meets the shifter. The cable from the pedal goes over to of the Cross member. Is that correct?
I finally decided to get it working so I tightened the cable. It still doesn't work and the cable hits the shifter rod and pushes it into gear.
Rub is not the right word. I got under it this morning and the cable coming from the pedal gets pulled into the shifter. Almost like the intermediate cable is too long. Which hole on the tranny cross member is the right one for the big cable hook?
Let me try and get a couple better close up photos for you. Cables stretch and you may need to cut off some of the threaded portion. Stay tuned.
That cable looks too high should come through cross member and the large hook on the passenger side is different for a 4 speed than automatic. I tried to get a pic off computer real quick. Hope it helps.
