I make a motion that Alan gets out his checkbook. Anybody second the motion?
Pretty car and no A/C, no power brakes, no console, no power windows/locks, etc. Looks like a runner! :3gears:
This should be good to watch!

If Alan ever opens up that pocketbook you had better stand back because a swarm of moths will be flying out after having been disturbed from a long slumber.

Has anyone seen this car in person? Or know of it's history other than what's described? Saw one in Nov. last year go for $17,100 non- Stage , but loaded with power in nicer shape and original color to collector in Milwaukee. Talked to him within a few weeks of getting it and he emailed pics. Turned down $25,000 and said he had received offers over $30,000. Had console ,P/S , brakes and looked awesome.

I don't know if i could bring myself to spend 30K on a car that has the chromed plastic K Mart mirrors on it. I don't care how rare it is... I bet that car was rotted and is full of cheese now. 2 pics for a 1 of 77 car... k mart mirrors, you do the math.

    just my .02..

hopefully whoever buys it checks it out real well before paying big bucks.

He has a whole batch of pictures at the link. Probably 25 or 30 of them.

Alan won't want it, it's not red. :3gears:

Of course if he got a white one to go in the middle of this one and the red one he already has...

I had one as some may remember. 69 is tough to document. Without a build sheet I wouldn't trust it as a real stage 4 speed and no one else will beleive it either. My only saving grace was a protecto place and pretty complete history in the family since 1978 and even that wasn't enough for some. Even without the stage 1 it is still 212 of the 4 speed converts made. Tony

That car is in Hanover-Yardley's back yard! Im sure Alan would'nt have to twist Yardley's arm too much to go look at it.

Jim- last time Alan opened his wallet in front of me, George Washington's eyes were squinting

Alan! Shoot the lock off the wallet!

Bunch of Comedians, eh ???

No one noticed the missing wheel well trim ?? Or breather tube ?? Is that the correct AC Lid ??

Too bad it doesn't have the pearl white interior, that would go nice with the white top pver blue

It will be interesting to see where this one goes - Im saving my pennies for a fully loaded one though - WITH Doc's

Tony - I understand the tough documentation on the 69's but would you agree that an RS block #'s matching, M21 with #'s matching and date correct, carb, dist. etc gets you 98% there ??

And to think I had a hand in parting out 2 of those cars. :Dou: Who knew!

I'd agree Alan to a point. Mostly based on price. If you are going for a big dollar that may not be enough for some buyers. We have heard of those who restamp blocks all the time. Tony

    This car looks VERY familiar!!

Alan, you know what I'm talking about I know.

I'm not mentioning any names, but the locale AND the car are way to close to be coincidence....

I looked at a 69 GS 400 Stage 1 Convertible 4 speed in York, PA many years ago and it needed a full resto (after being freshly painted the same color as the one in this auction!)

There was gorilla hair sticking out from everywhere I could find.

Ironically, all numbers seemed to match, but I could not for the life of me figure out why, if it was a tru numbers car, that a full frame off was not done.

That is easily a 60k car if the right resto was done and the numbers are true.

Doubt its a stage car just a collection of emblems and stickers you can buy at any muscle car parts joint . the hood emblem even looks like the old bent ones they repoped..any way heres his answer after asking what doc's he has to back up stage claim

"what paper work would you like ?? run the numbers thanks DAVE" :Dou:

Gimme some stage2 paper work please

    69 Stage One

    Guys,

I looked at this a year or so ago when the Lawyer the ad references had it. He was asking 19 or 20k. In my opinion it was a 13 to 14k car back then. The car does have some rust issues. As I remember the passenger door was rusted out in the bottom, and the passenger rear quarter had issues. The floors seemed solid, and the car was all there. The numbers on the block denoted it as a matching numbers Stage 1 car. Did not verify the carb or trans numbers as I was more interesteb to see if it was a true Stage 1. On a scale of 1 to 5 this car is in my opinion about a three. It was all there, not all cut up or modified, and the rust issues were workable. I have seen and bought allot worse. If any one is TRULY interested, I could look at it while I am on the phone with you and I could answer your specific questions from an impartial point of view.

Ok, I am really thinking about getting this car....what I need is for the experts to give there opinion on the price I should pay....let's assume that the car is a real deal but without the paperwork. What should I pay?

Thats a tough call David. Given what Kooch said above, it would seem he's gonna want more than 20K. You've done one of these before so you know what it takes $$$-wise to whip it into Premo shape. The door isn't a real issue but the quarter is as no one is currently producing Repro's. Inner wheel houses ?? Core Support ?? Inner Pass. fender ?? all the Bright Work ??

As a reference, last summer I looked at its sister - 1/77 Stage1 Convert 4-speed. It had some serious issues (but none too bad), came with a TON of parts, had #'s motor and trans and carb but Distrib was changed at some point and no papers. That was 15K a year ago. I walked for several reasons mostly because it was a Very very low option car (bench seat, manual brakes...etc.etc. PS was the only option) and given the time, money, and effort needed to whip it into shape I thought it would be wiser to "invest" more up front into a different car that needed less. I could have easily seen throwing 30-40K at that one to get it to where I'd want it to be even though it came with alot of the hard to find stuff. I guess having "bigRed" also makes me jump less at what comes up - its not like Im without a car.

If you're looking to fluff it up and flip it, I'd say "good luck" but if its your life long DreamMachine (like it is mine...) and you see holding it for quite some time then Go for It !!

....its not like 1/77 pops up every day .... or year for that matter :beer

    Stage 1

Thanks Alan, since my Sliver 69 I have been in the flip mode...because I have not found anything worth keeping(4 speed, BBB, Conv.). I have grown to love the 69's and this is the top dog 69 type car. Sooooooo I will stay in it a little while and see where it leads.

    Thanks David Roth

My friend Kevin Walsh looked at a 69 Blue GS Stage 1 4-speed Convertible in Pa several years ago and put a deposit on it...he went to get the car and was told that it was totaled. This may be the same car....if Kevin is on line, he may be able to verify it.
