I guess I'm going to have to change my account image because I just had a friend of mine list my 69 Buick Sport Wagon on eBay.

    Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/152469952502?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I've had the Sporty a little over 12 years and everything I've done to it is listed in the ad. The car was originally a regular driver for my 3 kids and then it became part of our towing fleet for our vintage trailers and I modified it to meet the task. I never thought I'd say this but, life changes and we suddenly found ourselves with too many cars and trailers . My kids have all moved on and without the extra help, I just have too much to maintain so something(s) has gotta give.

Please take a look. The reserve on it is realistic and reasonable. If anyone wants more photos or info, PM me.

    Thanks,
    Al

    Alan,
Nice wagon and good luck with the sale. I'm am not in position to buy right now but if I was I would be very interested......

You may want to have your friend remove your phone number from the ebay listing and only give it out by request. That may eliminate some of the calls from tire kickers.

Super nice and really like the color combo. Seems like a great car for a family with kids still at home.

    Should sell quickly,

Thanks for the nice comments. It really hurts to let go of this one because of all the cars we have, this one was driven and worked on by everybody in the family (even the girls) so it has some real sentimental value. I hope it finds a good home.

I read the ebay ad . Unfortunately I can't buy the car now . I live about 20 miles from Rutgers Univercity in the City of New Brunswick NJ . I would love to buy it and drive it back home from Arizona ....what a road trip that would be.

I bought my previous 68 Sporty in Colorado and drove it home to L.I. .. but first I headed west and drove around the continental divide as I'd never been out that way.

.. Good Luck with the sale. Should be an interesting barometer of where the market is at. Im guessing somewhere between the 12-17K range

    Hey Alan,

From one Alan to another, your wagon is awesome. I have admired it for awhile. As far as the market goes, I believe you're in range. I've been doing my research and watching the market for over a year...I think I've been suffering all that time too. Like I posted before though, I think I have a very reasonable and realistic reserve on the thing. I have no delusions of grandeur despite the sentimental attachment to the car.

    Thanks,
    Al

Had I seen this last year, I'd be driving it now. But I bought a new econobox, as sport wagons that nice are really rare. Gorgeous car. GLWS

I bought my old '69 SW 400 in Phoenix in '94 and drove it back - Loaded with parts from the yards we visited. We had fenders wrapped up & on the roof rack. Awesome memories & highly recommended.

I had just posted a link in the "eBay" section before seeing this thread. Beautiful car. Wish I was in a position to buy it - I think my Sportwagon days are over although I still couldn't resist buying an NOS pair of 68-69 rear bumper fillers last week - I Still have a bunch of NOS SW parts.

I went with Dano and we drove his car ('69 SW400) back from Phoenix to Maryland. It was a great trip. The following year ('95) we flew in to Little Rock and drove mine ('69 SW400) back to Baltimore. We drove mine to the GS Nationals that spring. Great time and memories.
I can assure you that of all the cars I have owned - I miss that wagon the most. If I were in a position to buy yours - I'd be there in a minute. You may re consider the sale so that you don't have the want for a super nice car such as yours in a year or three.

    I hope you keep it,

    Matt

    Al,

What do you think the towing capacity is for that wagon? How big of a trailer have you towed with it?

I used to tow a big 1-car (steel) open trailer trailer with mine (6k lb. ish loaded) and I never felt like it was any issue whatsoever, but not sure I'd want to tow much more than that.

    Hey Mike,

I have to look for my scale sheet. The Shasta trailer you see in the pics is between 3,200 and 3,800 lbs with 325 lbs of tongue weight. I also used weight distribution bars and a sway bar on that little trailer. Load up those heavy vintage Schwinns on the rear rack and I could loosen the weight chains 1 link... I think it could pull more but, I wouldn't want more weight at that trailer height. so pulling a boat perhaps. I worry more about stopping and just plain comfort more than finding the limit.

    Thanks,
    Al

    Al,

As an FYI, when your friend listed your car on ebay, he didn't include the year at the start of the title (almost everyone does). When I search ebay Buick listings, I sort by year, oldest first (as I suspect many do), as I don't want to scroll through all the newer car listings. Your car doesn't show up with the other 1969 models, but rather it is the very last listing, after all of the new cars. I only found this out because I noticed as I was scrolling through the 69's I didn't see it today, so I purposefully searched for it.

This is an error you should try to have fixed, there are probably lots of potential buyers who aren't seeing it, as they only look at the older cars and not the new stuff.

Thanks Chris. When I search "Buick" it's the first thing that pops up but when I do a year range, no dice. I'll ask him to look into it.

Update: Bummer, you can't change a listing title or description after the first bid. Total accident by a super experienced guy. He's my best Buick pal forever, so recompense via beer may be in order...

    Al
