I have a basic idea of places to look for a build sheet in my 68 Riviera, from what I understand is that H is built in Flint and the most common place to find a build sheet is on top of the fuel tank, now if there isnt one there is there a next most common place to look first? Before I go tearing away at the car trying to get lucky and find one, any help/corrections appreciated thanks guys.

All the years I've been into '68-'69 Rivieras Nate, I have yet to see, or find a build sheet, or anything that even resembles a build sheet, and I've searched
everywhere and junked, and stripped a few of them. I believe they are just like some of the rare parts - made from unobtanium !! :TU:

If this was any other GM car (with a rear seat):
Take out the lower part of the rear seat and look between the springs.

After pulling the dash and complete int out of my car and not finding it also pulled the tank for no other reason but to see if it was there and no luck.

Well heres an update, may be interesting or may not be lol, Pull rear seat out, no build sheet under there, however I did find a nickle from 1968 ;) kinda cool, looked under front seat nadda, looked the best I could up under the dash did not see anything spectacular, gave up on the build sheet, decided to look at my rear axle to see what it is, did not find the common code, all I found for stampings is to the left of axle center about 3" to from the flange where the axle tube meets the housing is: N then either a M or H or R very difficult to determine that one and then 331 alls I can think of is someone stamped NR331 into it stating a "new ratio" ???? help me out here, the reason I'm so gun hoe for more info/numbers on this car is the body plate doesnt have any options codes on it, yet I have a power front seat, center rear seat speaker, rear "Defrost/heater" whatever u want to call it, am I wasting time are these all standard items or options? anyways the dash in this car is in mint cond. yet the rest of the car is more and more looking kinda ugly, looking for a vin somewhere else on the car to match the dash vin, this car is red with a half white top, yet the paint code on the plate states its a silver beige mist car no top, and my 68 430 block has 70/71 455 heads, engine block and heads are blue, intake and valve covers red. someone has definitely gone over this car once before. I just am on a hunt for as much original build information and original cast/stamped numbers that I can find for this one.

(sorry that I have to address you like that, I couldn't find your first name in your introduction post)

Can you post a photos of the car, I'm not sure how a half vinyl top looks on a model year 1968 Riviera?

There is a VIN stamped in the rear of the chassis on the driver's side of the car
But you have to lift the body to check this.

331 is the date code which equates to Nov 27th which in 1967 would have been a Monday. Chances are the build date on your Fisher Body tag is Dec. Most likely the axle code is a PM which is standard 3.07 ratio and most commonly found. Sometimes the stamps are very light. any amount of rust makes it more difficult.
Pretty sure I have seen a N before the date code but don't have access to my info at the moment to be sure. If it is in fact an N and not the M as part of PM, the N may indicate "Night" shift. A "D" would be Day shift.
If you don't have a Chassis Service Manual, its money well spent to purchase one.

Center speaker is standard. power seats, defrost cruise, ect are options. I got a parts car that was ordered with no A/C and has an AM radio as well as manual crank up windows with no vinyl top but buckets and long center console.

Great info guys, I dunno about lifting my body off as of just yet but think I could see the vin with a mirror and or a borescope? The rear end definitly has an N stamped before the 331, the second letter is difficult to determine for sure but from different angles appears to be most likely a M or H, where would the axle code be if these numbers arent it? My name is Nathan, call me Nate as in my user name ;-) I am still working on how to get pictures from my phone to work on this site one member mentioned the picture density is too high/large when I upload photos to my computer from my phone? If I can get help with that/figure that out I will gladly post lots of picutres! I purchased original 1968 chassis service manual and 1968 fisher body manuals already. If my car does have options why wouldnt they be on the fisher body plate? Would it be because those are installed after the body? Hence importance of a build sheet I suppose.

I appreciate your offer to help, But I would like to eliminate this difficulty, my photos I am trying to upload are only about 5mb in size each wouldn't think that would be an issue, could you give me a runthrough on what to do to be able to upload photos from my phone or if I am uploading from my laptop the photos are bluetoothed from my phone originally. thanks

    ''Only'' 5 MB....

Here is what the board allows: 488 KB for a JPG file.
    5 MB = 5.000.000 bytes (new standard)
    488 KB = 488 000 bytes

Use Paint on your Windows laptop to downsize your photos to 800 pixels wide :TU:

And use TinyPic or Photobucket to share your photos and files :beer

Haha ok I figured it all out yeah I suppose 5mb would be a tad too large bahaha, Damn smartphones eh! Heres a few of the car with and with the top removed, someone did a mighty fine job installing it.
Note: I have polished the passngers side, roof(before top was removed) and trunk of the car, the hood needs polishing and the drivers side is untouched and needs some tlc.

You can use a model year 1969 rear bumper if you can't find a '68.
But the reversing lights are situated in the rear lenses on a 1969 Riviera, '68 looks better with the two separate lights :TU:

Might just try to bend the current read bumper back into shape using a cat 966 loader with love haha ;)
So to add another question to the pile, Went to retrieve my engine serial number, no numbers at all on the left side of the engine in between plug holes/manifold, passenger side at the rear I read: 70135115, front 306, engine block cast # is 1381625(430), heads cast # are 1240149, intake cast # is 1386681. Now shouldnt there be an H on the engine serial # followed by last #'s of car vin? Im confused here, definitely no #'s on th drivers side.
