Hey guys, so I am working on the brakes on my 68 Pontiac Ventura project and the drum brakes ate hard and expensive to find locally. My question it's ate there any other drums i can use? Maybe a 1968 impala? Or caprice? The size of my drums is 11x 2 The current drums were used soo much on very little brake shoe that the rivets dug deep holes into them rendering them useless Just need to get this car going since my 08 mustang got hit and it's in the shop
The Pontiac drum has a 5 X 5 bolt circle, Chevrolet has a 5 X 4 3/4, so no, you can't swap them for caprice or Impala. Buick also had 5 X 5, but you need a junk yard Hollander interchange manual to see if anything else fits. If worst comes to worst, you can (maybe) have the drums turned to make them round but leaving the deep grooves in them...... if you can find someone willing to even touch them.
Thx for the replies, yea just needed them these next two days all auto part stores have to special order them and are $90 a piece rockauto has them cheap but like almost 2 weeks out . I can moat likely wait or if i do get them rounded again possibly drive it to work and back meanwhile I receive the new ones, my thought is the drums will be even more difficult to remove after wards with material stuck in groove
A couple hundred miles the shoes shouldn't wear that much in the groove that the drum won't come back off.GL Derek
Will see if any buicks might be laying around in a junkyard, rivieras and full size cars had 5x5 righr
Gotcha! Just need to get this car out of the driveway and moving ! Thanks again everyone, this is why V8Buick is the best Happy New Year to you all !!
