I was surfing through Facebook and saw a Blue 1968 Buick GS with a 4spd for sale in Texas. I am remotely interested as I had a 4spd Buick many many decades ago. They were asking $2800 but unfortunately has no title. I am soo tech unsavy and have no idea how to link to it. I am sure most of you have seen it, or even one of you own it. Is that really a rare vehicle? The big part from that car I would like to have is the rear differential because of the factory aluminum cover I have been looking for. Do any of you have any opinion or information about the car I am speaking of?
Not really sure what it is originally, but the post said it had a 430 in it. I did just establish contact with him and he said that he is parting it out and the rear end was sold. I just messsged him to find out about the tranny, pedals, linkages etc.
That is the differential cover I have been looking for for several years now. It just brings back memories of my first GS 30 years ago. Because I was under the car so often repairing it and remember seeing that cover lol.
Oh yeah. That car is well beyond my skill set. I was really Only interested in some of the parts. I just did some screen shots because who doesn’t like looking at Buick’s.
My sons and I are working on a 68 GS400 convertible and a 72 Skylark convertible. I think there is a guy out in SC that has a few GS convertibles for sale.
Ed? He is the one who sold me a white GS400 about 5 years ago. Shoot, may be 6-7 years ago. I am almost contemplating buying another one from him. Lol. Grew up with that 68 body style. My parents had both 68 and 72. That 72 we have now is from my mother, but I was young and dumb and sold the 68 4spd Buick.
A while ago, on eBay, a seller was selling reproduction W30 covers that had "GS" in them instead of W30... And just an FYI... I have never seen or heard of ANY 4 speed Buick with a factory aluminum rear end cover. To date, I've only owned about 10... all (but 1) had their original rear ends that they rolled out of the factory with. The one 4 speed without was a Candian built car which rolled out with a 12 bolt... WHich I saw (and passed on buying) with its factory, stamped steel cover.... https://www.ebay.com/p/7005434539?i...MIpdLqmMCF7AIVAcDICh26AA4eEAQYBSABEgJ16PD_BwE This cover look familiar????
Yeah I have no idea. I just assumed it was factory. I did buy the car in several boxes when I was a teenager. And it had the cover on it at the time. I can’t remember if there were stamped letters and numbers in the cover. And then I coincidentally saw this blue 4spd for sale with a finned cover on it. So I assumed it. But yes, it did look like the one you showed from the parts place. Thanks.
If it's a real GS convertible, then it's a big block (GS 400) as there were no small block GS converts until '71. It may have some good parts.
So JIM.... mine isnt a real one?? Shucks. I thought I got lucky with a 12 bolt Olds gear and a pseudo Halibrand quick change cover. Are you here JIM???? ws
I sm sure plenty of you already know. Oldsmobile made an actual aluminum W-27 rear. Not just a cover.
