    hi group

i will make this problem short as possible....
the wildcat has 32000 miles never been restored except for paint. i have a vibration as i accelerat in ist gear, then dissapears as it shifts to second.

done so far.... new carrier bearing and bushing, new u joints, balanced the driveshaft twice, new motor mounts.

after the carrier was done the vibration was alot better but never went completely away. then tried the 'correct' trany mount thinking the pinon angle may be off, and the vibration actually got more pronounced.

rear coli spring were done about 8 years ago

    totally stumped...helppppp...thx vito

Have you tried smoking the tires? Perhaps your tranny is slipping.......a slipping tranny will not smoke the tires too well and quite probably will be very noticable if it gives out......so do this test close to home.:Dou:

Also, a loose or broken tranny mount might cause a vibration.

Tire separated or out of balance? First things first...

Since the vibration got more pronounced when you messed with the tranny mount, I'd say that's the area to focus on.

Try going back to the angle the original mount had, or a little the other way, and see if it gets better.

Yes-there were shims available to raise the mount. Usually an old mount will be lower as it squished down over time, but you replaced it(same height as old?) I've seen the shims in OE situations, too. Makes me wonder if the drivetrain angles(as per the shop manual) are correct=could be rear control arm mount-thus rear end to drive shaft issues? good luck

I had the same problem. Not only was my carrier bearing bad, but the u-joints and ball inside the constant velocity joint were gone too. Fixed both and she was smooth as silk.

    hi devon

thx for responding....yeh cv joint was done also. for some reason my driveline angles must be off.

2 things if i may ask you...
can you [or someone] send me specs on the factory angles of the drive shaft. im in search of a chassis manual but i need to resolve this soon.
also, this may be a long shot but my transmission cross member raises up towards the center, do you know or can you find out if that is factory correct. if for some reason that cross member is not correct [too high in the center] then that will support why the shudder got worse when we replaced the trani mount and why the shudder dissapates a bit when i have weight in the trunk.
thx alot ...still speculating kieth and dan...im on those points also... thx vito

    Vito,
I've got my Wildcat on the lift, I'll get a picture of the crossmember there.

When I got my Wildcat back from the restoration shop the u joint spacers were missing and I had to go to the driveshaft shop to get the correct spacers (and had them balance it- again) That is where the driveshaft bolts to the differential.

    hi devon
were you able to track down the specs for the factory angles of the 67 wildcats driveshafts?..thx vito

its going back to my mechanic tomorrow for more exploratory analysis

    Some pix!
First, a bare crossmember...from a 65 but frames are the same.

middle is about an inch lower than sides.

    The service manual had some detailed prop shaft instructions;
the angle of the rear axle to the prop shaft is minimal nose of the carrier is slightly down; as you put weight in the car I would imagine it to rotate up a little bit. = to a zero pinion angle
there is a diagram that shows where they mounted a couple special tools that essentially enabled them to mount a reference string from the trannie to the rear end. then the measurements were taken from the string to the front of the differential carrier, the carrier bearing. Really need a service manual to see. :beer

ted, your going to kill me, my mechanic was concearned about the cross member for the carrier bearing not the tranni[im an ass]

no need for pics [unless it is super convienent] but just a verbal explanation on whether you feel that cross member takes a pretty good slope upward towards the center

my number is 480 241 5180......thx in advance, vito
