Stiffer springs help that as well. I assuming from your earlier post your using 2 light springs.......just 1 medium spring would slow the rate down.

I attempted to test all of my springs, I wasn't able to find one that was heavier. I only found ones that were lighter, so I cut the weights instead.

Yes, I've heard of it but never read about it, time to hit the books.

John, what is your new DCR after the head swap? I don't see why you would be having pre-ignition issues with 10.1 CR and a hotter than stock cam with less than 34* ignition timing.

My DCR is sitting right at 8:1, I'm running 30* of timing. 10.2:1 static. Maybe I need a bigger cam, heh heh heh
    Like a C118

I guess your DCR is a little high. I came up with 8.13:1 after plugging in your cam specs and SCR.

A larger cam definitely sounds like a more rewarding solution rather than octane booster and retarding the timing.

Did you take into account how far the pistons are in the hole when you came up with 10.2:1?

I would say running an ethanol blend would be an option but by the time you modify your fuel system for that, I think it would be cheaper to swap the cam.

    1972Mach1 Just some M.M.O.G. guy.....

He doesn't have enough compression to benefit from E85, and E10 or E15 will only make his issue worse through leaner burning.

I'm trying to account for timing chain stretch when I say 8:1 dynamic, I'm assuming like 2* of stretch, which brought it down to like 8.03

I'm just on the edge, I think I can get away with octane booster, but I will mix in 5 gallons of 100LL aviation fuel when I head to the drag strip. I'll mix it in when I arrive, so about 7 gallons 93 from a 3/4 full tank, and then 5 of 100LL.

I also did lose some low end power, but I bet I might be able to get it back through some tuning.

Funny you mention that, does your son still have that hub dyno that I swear I asked about nearly 2 years ago?

Maby I missed it, but were these Stage 1 ported heads in any form on a other running engine?
Did you just get a fresh up at the machine shop?

Yes, for about 5000-10000 miles if I recall before the valve job

Well yes, a little good news. Took my friends for a ride, packed 4 people in and starting exercising the new combo. They swear I’m down into the 4 second range for 0-60, and these are all guys with newer cars, and they couldn’t stop talking about the Riviera as we worked on my friends exhaust for the rest of the day

I didn’t get a chance to, but I’ll be pulling the usual plug and checking for air fuel ratio, detonation, everything when I get back home for Thanksgiving, as I didn’t have time that day.

Nice,:) and sometimes it takes another person to notice the difference, especially if they aren't around the car much..
Digging the driveway and how nice it is.. I destroyed my driveway as a kid with oil, antifreeze, etc.. and jack stand marks. My pops wanted to kill me;)
Also it's in a snotty town where you couldn't even hammer a nail in your house without asking the neighbors. not mention car parts such as hoods and fenders tucked behind the back the house..:D

John get a AFR gauge and weld a bung into the exhaust its the only way to get it right.
