Several members here want a full size posi rear so you should have no problem selling it. Gears are needed too!
:error: Chances of the '67 Olds 98 rear being an early 9 3/8 Buick rear are slim to none. Olds did not use same big car hsg & ring & pinion as did Buick. '66-87 Olds "B" series rear useage: -Olds used an 8.2 BOP ring & pinioned rearend in the '66 Starfire, it was afterall a lightduty B series car. -the new for '66 Type "O" big car rear was used in Olds 88's (& in it's most popular application... '67-70 Cutlasses). -the "P" series (Pontiac 8 7/8") rear was used in Olds bigger cube & higher horse B series cars, ie, 425 cube Olds 98"s. To ID the difference in the type "O" & the type "P" rearend... Type "O" 10 bolt rear has "smooth" 12 bolt cover & ten ring gear bolts holding ring gear to the carrier. Posi unit is clutch type with square eared clutchs. Appearance is very similiar to later corporate 8.5 carriers, ie, 2 spiders gears & in between, an "S" shaped spring for clutch pack preload. '65-70 "P" series rear is a Pontiac axle division 12 bolt... has 12 ring gear bolts. Housing will have rear cover with 10 bolts. Will also have 31 spline axles & a 30 spline pinion yoke. All series of '65-70 "P" Eaton posi units will be small windowed with odd coil spring/preload assembly, & will use same clutchs as 12 bolt Chevy. This rearend, though having a 12 bolt 8 7/8" diam ring gear, is not the same as either 12 bolt "Chevy" car, or 12 bolt "Chevy" truck. There are no aftermarket "P" series gears or posi carriers...one must search & search for desirable ratio "P" series gears... Hope this helps. :3gears: Roger
Thanks for clearing that up Roger. Amazing, you would think GM would have mandated standard chassis for these cars. No wonder they could not make money with all these different parts to do the same work.
