Decided to post a car here from time to time that we had performed some major performance/mechanical restorations on. This Chevelle took a first place two weeks after I finished it, even though it needed to be stripped and painted yet. One of my personal favorite things on this build is the Billet Specialties alternator/power steering set-up. It is designed to mount them as low as possible to show off as much of the front of the engine as it can. I also designed an 1/8" aluminum plate that covers all the unsightly dimples and holes in the firewall. It is attached with #3 countersunk stainless oval head sheet metal screws, with a thin bead of silicone in between 1/2" down across the top (but not exposed at all) before the final installation of the plate. That way no crud can get behind it from the top. I am going to be making the same style plates for my '70 Skylark. They will eliminate the mess of smoothing out the firewall with bodywork especially if the car is completed already.

    Awesome job!

What kind of Wilwood brake set up is that?

Thank You, It's a 1-1/8" bore master with 4-piston front and rear calipers. Please keep in mind that the customer did not opt for us to perform a full frame restoration so a "Top Down Engine Compartment Resto" was completed. The booster is a dual diaphram 9". I have the whole file on the car in my desk at the shop incase you want the part numbers. Thought I would throw in a shot of my custom radiator/fan mounting. That's a Ron Francis billet aluminum boxed radiator overflow...fits the look nicely.

Nice! Did you paint the frame rails afterwards? Is the paint color Royal Plumb?

Thanks guy's!! It's a .030 over 396, Keith Black Hyperutectic pistons on reconditioned stock Chevy rods. Static compression is just under 10:1. Oval port heads with pocket porting and 3-angle valve job (Manley Severe Duty Valves) Comp Cams XE-274 Hydraulic flat tappet cam, Comp Cams Magnum Steel Roller Tip rockers, Comp Cams .080 wall chrome moly 3/8 push rods, Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake manifold, Holley 750 Mechanical Secondarys, Holley Mechanical fuel pump, Hooker Super Comp headers, Torque Tech 3-1/2" to 3" Exhaust with their X-pipe, Magnaflow Stainless Straight Threw mufflers, Mallory Electronic Distributor (NO VACUUM ADVANCE), Mallory Ford Style Hi Output Coil (hidden behind engine) Mallory CD Box (behind dash), I removed the old TH350 and installed a Muncie M20 (customer supplied trans), Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch, Stock Aluminum bell housing and stock original GM flywheel, DeWitt's Aluminum Radiator (I love those DeWitt's radiators...have one going into my Skylark that is replacing a Griffin), Flex-A-Lite Slim Line electric fans with automatic controller and temp probe that screws into the intake manifold (I don't care for the probes in radiator stuff), C-3 Corvette drop base air cleaner with vent tube removed and blocked off. Edelbrock Victor water pump, Powermaster 100Amp alternator, 1992 Jeep Grand Cherokee Steering box (have one of those also going into my Skylark), that style box is a direct bolt in but uses 2 little aluminum adapter fittings that get pressed into the boxes seats. It has and incredible feel to it and is also quick ratio. Stock front control arms with energy suspension bushings (they are totally quiet), Wilwood Brake system (as mentioned), Spohn Performance front sway bar and Spohn Rear Touring Sway Bar set-up (love that stuff!!), Chevy 12-bolt with Richmond 3:55 gears on a New Eaton Rough Service Posi Carrier, stock axles (no c-clip eliminators because the customer is not going to use slicks and not going to the strip with it. Also the rear disc brake should help if an axle should break) Global West Del-A-Lum rear lower trailing arms, QA1 adjustible upper trailing arms, QA1 control arm mount braces, QA1 Anti-Hop bars, Complete New M&H Wire Fabricators Wiring harness front to back (I'm a dealer for them), I cut out the rusted metal dash and welded in a new reproduction dash, patched/welded 7-8 holes in the windshield channels, welded patch panels on interior floor and kick panal area, installed and custom wired AutoMeter Cobalt Gauges in an aftermarket gauge panel (I custom installed the oem upper trim strip into the dash bezels for a one-of-a-kind look), had the seats re-upholstered in TMI suede/leather, cut and sectioned the stock seat mounts 2" lower (owner's son is 6'4" tall), had a business associate come to the shop and install a new headliner onsite, installed hushmat then Auto Custom Carpet (ACC), installed new oem style door panels, painted door jams and area around windsheild where repairs were performed, stripped painted fender skirts, sent radiator support out to be dipped and E-Coated, I did a ton more but I'll post as I think of things.

Thanks Again, it makes it all worthwhile

Thanks, Yep...Royal Plum Code (MM). Had a hard time finding a shot of the completed windshield frame but I think this shot from above gets it. Shot of the ignition coil hiding. I made the fuel line and rear main brake lines as one piece each (like the oem). Spectre Premium fuel tank. Water pump pulley is close to the fans but clears (tried it on hard deceleration and it just touched so I turned the face of the pulley down in the lathe, polished it and it's perfect).

Thanks Mike. From time to time I'll post other various projects I have completed.
just a note about the pictures of the dash, the camera flash makes that upper trim strip look a bit blue. It is actually the original Dk charcoal grey, just as it came out of the package.

We painted the frame rails before any assembly if thats what you are asking. Notice motivational pictures on windshield for continued inspiration.

I was looking at the frame rails after the control arm installation, Larry. Your next pics answered my question. BTW, Royal Purple was one of my favorite GM colors back then. Actually, still is.

Yea the customer opted out of having us pull the body so we we did what we call an "Engine Bay Down" restoration. The front fender skirts are up against the top outside edge of the frame so you don't actually see the side rails of the frame then. Not exactly what I would have prefered, but it's what the customer wanted at this time. I get quite a few guy's that choose to go that route with us. At the tail end of the job we still clean the sides of the frame rails and they get a treatment of undercoat with the inner skirts (front and back) before it leaves. The bottom of the car stays the same as when it comes in to us. It all hinges around the customers budget. A few pictures of the owner and his son backing out of the shop for their first test drive, then coming back from the test drive (the looks on their faces tells it all), rear shot, then owner leaving with his finished project.
