Hi, Looking for advice how to remove the upper dash pad on my 66 Special. Need to get to the dashboard to fix some lights. It seems to be in there pretty tight, and I did not want o break it. The pad itself is in great condition. Thanks in advance;
First, you should get a copy of the 1966 Buick Chassis Manual. They are available and cheap on Ebay, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-19...724319?hash=item23d81e5e9f:g:0jEAAOSwaL5eztzp Until then though, https://www.teambuick.com/community/index.php has it online in their reference section. https://www.teambuick.com/reference/library/66_chassis/index.php Here are the relevant pages,
1) There is a row of screws at the top of the dash chrome, going into the dash pad. 2) The dash pad lower ends are more difficult to remove.... there are tapered/notched pins on the pad which press into spring clips in the lower dash. Just pulling the dash pad or trying to pry it loose will often damage the dash pad. You need to get to the backside of the dash, use a flat blade screwdriver in the spring clip and spread the tangs apart enough to loosen their grip on the retaining pin and release the pad. Removing the dash to replace bulbs is the long way to R&R them. Short method is to maneuver your body to reach up under the dash to R&R the bulbs. It may be worthwhile to remove the front seat to give yourself more room to work under the dash.
