Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and to classic Buicks. I bought my 66 Skylark last summer, it has a 430 motor in it(from what the previous owner told me, a 1967 Riviera) I ordered parts for it that should fit a 67 riviera, they are definitely not the right parts! Is there a way to find out exactly what I have in there? I know it's a 430, stamped into the block behind the carb. Maybe the PO was misinformed about the year of the motor swap?
A picture would be nice. Buick made a 340 in 66, 67 and a 430 in 67?, 68, 69. You don't say which parts you ordered, are they for the engine only.
Sounds like he transplanted the engine from a 67 riv, which would have been a 430. Engine parts should interchange, but body parts will not. What parts did you get that will not fit. Also welcome aboard from NY. Fred
Thanks everyone! I ordered regular maintenance stuff, filters...plugs and wires, etc. i will get some pics tomorrow afternoon.
I think you need to make a few more posts to be allowed to post pics. I see you only have 3. Jim Tapatalk User
O yeah, that makes sense. Thanks what's the difference between the special deluxe and a skylark? title says skylark, but I looked up the VIN meanings and it's leading me to believe that I have a special deluxe!
The Special Deluxe is a trim level down from the Skylark and mostly involvles cosmetics. I have a '66 Special Deluxe 2Door Hardtop with a 340 & 4barrel, which is the same engine that was available in the Skylark. The Skylark has the nice stainless trim running the length of the vehicle and includes wheel well opening moldings. Also, the hood on the Special Deluxe does not have the molding that runs down the middle of the hood. The front ends are the same while the back end of the Special Deluxe does not have the aluminum trim panel. I like the hood on the Special Deluxe, but the stainless trim on each side of the Skylark is nicer than the spear on the quarter panel of the Special Deluxe.
