Also, be model specific, as I believe that the '66 GS and sport wagon axle bearings are virtually unobtainable at any price.
Anybody know what the difference between the two are? Are the axleshafts from a 8.2 rear the same diameter as a 8.5 rear Im not trying to mix the two just want to know where they spline into the spider gears are they the same diameter.
I had to replace an axle on my 65 sky-top wagon due to the bearing spining and I purchased a new axle and bearing from a company called UNITRAX that rebuild rear ends all for $150 You might check (if you have one) Autozone, I was suprised that they had rear bushings, ball joints, front bearing real reasonable They might have a good brand of Rear Bearings reasonable

The 8.2 axles are not interchangable with the 8.5. There have been several posts here (now lost) about the fact that the early GS and Sport Wagon axle bearings are simply not obtainable from ANY source. There had been research done to see if any other bearing from another vehicle could substitute, and there was a suggestion on that. Regrettably, those posts were lost in the last v8buick.com crash. I greatly doubt, based on all the past posts I've read, that you will find your bearings at any local retail store.
A normal '64-67 Skylark 8.2 axle takes an RW507CR axle bearing. It is the most common sealed axle bearing used on close to 10 million '64-69 bolt-in axle 8.2 "Pontiac" rearends. BCA-Bower usually run me about $14 a pop through O'Reillys. The following are tough to find '64-68 Buick A-body station wagon application axle bearings: RW507AR's RW507GR's RW507AAR's Olcar is a good source. Don't be surprised if you have to pay $60-80 a bearing on these odd ducks. Sealed ball bearing axle bearings & their propensity to seize & chew up & spit out axles is just one good reason to go with a propperly built 8.5 A-body rear (tapered axle bearings). :3gears: Roger
Bearings The ones from green bearings for my 64 skylark wagon were 25 usd each plus shipping,i think i saw a post saying they had 50 sets left they were rw507ar
That's a really good deal!!! Just finished paying $43 a piece for some RW508BR's for pair of '65 Catalina 2+2 axles. The last 508BR's (bought in Jan) ran $48 a piece. :3gears: Roger
