    Hey,
Call me a dork, but I just bought a plastic model of a '66 Riviera, and I'm an adult. :) What color is the 425? Gotta be accurate. Thanks in advance!

'66 was the only year the nailhead was painted red, and I think it was only in the Riv but I'm not sure. The others may have still been painted that famous shade of green. The air cleaner was either chrome or black, depending on whether or not it was a GS.:Smarty:

Thank you! It's red on the box but I thought that was strange in a Buick. Thanks again!

Don't forget the Wildcat GS and Skylark GS were red engines as well! I have that same model, its in about the same shape as my 65 Wildcat Coupe - I'll never finish!

It'll have to warm up some so I can paint it outside before I even get to it! Someday I'll get a house with a heated garage!

Your car then has either a rebuilt engine in it, or perhaps it is a 401. What is the engine code?

This is stamped on the front of the engine block in front of the valley cover. Perhaps someone else here can decipher it for you, I don't know how to read the codes. That should tell what size motor you have. You may have a rochester GC square bore carb also and not a q-jet if that is not the original motor.

Also, the engine number will match the vin number if it's the original engine.

    Can you send a picture?

Im almost positive its the original motor that came in it. I found all kinds of service records in the glove box dating all the way back to 66, and following the mileage up to present day. The car has always been taken to buick for tune-up's , oil changes, or repairs and has 25k original miles on it.

Also, im sure the carb is a quadra-jet.

I had planned on taking some pics of it saturday or sunday while im off of work and posting them up. Ill check that engine number and see if it matches the VIN. Thanks for the info, you have been a big help so far....
    Thanks!

Im not doubting you. I will check the numbers to see if they match. Would be kinda sad if they didnt match though...

    Starr,

You could take the Riv to the Lone Star Buick Chapter of the BCA meeting this Sunday.

It will be held at noon Sunday (no football that day) at Hickory
    Hollow Bar-B-Que in the Heights.
It is located at 101 Heights just south of the Katy Freeway and right
after the tracks. Look for the parking lot full of Buicks.

    Re: 66 Riv engine color

I don't think you could match any brand of engine paint, even the factory color, because it fades with time from the heat. I just use plasticote "universal red engine paint" from pep boys for about $4 per can........ My old motor had that paint on it for 10 years, and it never peeled.

There are buick red paints you can get from cars, year one, etc. for 3 times as much, and that stuff also fades over time.
