I posted this in "parts wanted", but I thought you fellow nailhead types might be able to help. I was all ready (I thought) to drop the 401 into the car when I realized I am missing the brackets on the frame/crossmember for the front engine mounts. I have the adaptor plates on the engine and the mounts (pads). When the original engine was removed (before I bought the car in 1974) they must have removed and discarded the brackets.

Anyone have a source or even a clue where to start? I'm at a bit of a standstill until the engine is secure.

    Thanks.

    Yikes

    Those are hard to find.

Dan Lapham parted a 66 GS this winter. Maybe he has a set.

    Dan, Got your ears on?

Thanks for the response. I thought the adaptor plates on the engine were hard to get! I don't want to fabricate these if I dont have to. Enough projects already!

Yes-but at this point I'm considering dropping a nail in my El Camino-would need these parts. If I don't end up doing this, later on I'd look at selling the Sky GS parts as a group. I'm not sure if you are needing the adapter plates or the frame mount blocks. If the plates, do a site search as someone posted a drawing of the dimensions of these for fab from steel as the OE cast units can crack under hard use-good luck!

Progress! I found the pictures and diagrams that Don Ward ("Sore Loser") posted a while ago. The frame mounts are not clear, but it is clear how they change the location of the mounting points. I have the engine side plates.

Dan, do you have any pictures or measurements of the frame mounts? I think I could fabricate something that would work. I would gladly pay you for your time and effort or make a donation to the site (or both for that matter).

    Thanks

figure what size sq. tubing that will fit the rubber mount, cut it to fit and then assemble the whole thing to the engine and lower it into the chassis.
Get it into position and tack weld the frame mount pieces where they go and then raise the engine up enough to finish welding them in place.

The board comes through again! :TU: I've received pictures, diagrams, and all of the pertinent information on these pesky mounts. I am now in touch with a board member who has a spare set. I hope to to document them carefully enough so that duplicates could be made in the future.

Thank you ALL for your help. I'm sure the next "fly in the ointment" is right around the corner. I'll be posting some progress pictures this week.
