Ted - I will post some burnout pics soon... I love this new rear end. Quite a difference from 2.78 peg leg to 3.36 posi. I have a question - what bolt is the metal posi tag supposed to go on? (Ok, so I'm a little O.C.D.) Here is a pic of the new Chevy rear...
I have a 67 Cutlass I put a 69 GS rearend under with no problems or modifacations. I have a cousin that put a 70 Chevelle rearend under his 65 GTO no problem. A true "O" rearend is its own (GMs odd ball) It was made 67ish to 70 (conflicting year info) It was 8.3 inch gear clutch type posi. 12 bolt housing with a 10 bolt ring gear. Parts that are avalible are new posi unit, axels, beraings, 3.42,3.90,4.33 gear sets. Olds also used "B" or "P" type cone posi. I thought the Chebby 10 bolt was a clutch type 8.5 rear? or is that year specific? I dont know about parts avalibility for the "B""P" type rear. Found this site but havent gone read it all yet. www.oldsmobility.com/reardiffs.htm hope it helps.
Jim - Regarding the 2004r swap, search this site, as there has been some in depth analysis on this subject (including pictures). I you cannot find the threads, contact me and I'll walk you through the swap. Thanks for the info on the posi tag... It's bolted on and looking great!!!! I am still very happy with the rear end swap.
