    All I know is they cut the shell open and replace/rebuild some of the innards and weld it back up. Not sure exactly what they replace but I would like to know myself. If your car is still together in running condition there are fairly simple tests you can do to see if the converter is working.

    I'll usually have an SP converter rebuilt as a precaution when I'm doing a tranny. I was fortunate the guy at AAmco was a old car guy and we did a cash deal for $125 which I think is a pretty good price, but honestly I didn't shop around. All AAmco does is send them out to a wholesale supplier/rebuilder so I'm sure any tranny shop could have yours rebuilt buy doing same.
