I heard there was a 66-67 GS 401 adapter plate template on here. I'm hoping to drop a 401 into my 66 skylark and pull the 300 thats in there. I have been slowly acquiring parts. I dug around here ( ALL around here) and could find anything close to it. Does anyone have a copy of them or know which post they were on? Many thanks, Jimmy
Are you referring to the frame pads required to install the 401 nail head into your 66? If so, they do periodically come for sale. I believe the ones from a 65 GS will also fit your 66. Have you checked on 65gs.com yet? If you're not already aware, your current transmission WILL NOT bolt up to a nail head. You'll need a nailhead transmission as well.
there is a template posted Ill see if I can find it. http://www.v8buick.com/archive/index.php/t-252521.html http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?88068-62-nailhead-in-66-lark I made the post years ago how about that but there ya go.
Yup guess I meant the frame pads. Never needed them before so I havent nailed down the specific verbage :Brow: Ive got a 66 401 with the st 400 and Ive got a 63 401 I was thinking about putting a manual behind it. Got in touch with someone who has the rear sump pan and pick up and a pretty reasonable deal. Now Im trying to decide if I want to use the gs Exaust manifolds, or if I should just go for the headers. Any advice is always welcome
I bought headers. mine are used. I couldn't see spending more for something that was going to give me less power in my case. what kind of trans do you want?
Ive got the st 400 tranny, converter flywheel and starter off the 66 401, I was going to get the adapter for the pilot bearing for my 63 401 and bolt it onto it. looks like Im going to have to do some cutting and fabbing on the exaust pipes then.
you would either way pretty simple though you may want a mini starter too. the st400 is cheapest option but me I wanted overdrive so It cost me money. you mentioned a stick shift I thought. they make bellhousing adapters for sticks too. I'm auto guy myself. I hate driving a stick.
