Yep, Thanx to yous are walkin' me thru gettin' dis Ragtop Kitty back on da road.....:TU:

The parts are coming from 1) an unknown history shortblock and, 2) a cracked block engine I drove 20 miles that ran smooth, started nice, and plastigaged roughly <.0018" on all rod/main bearings. Both engines had carbon ring buildup at the cylinder tops. At disassembly, a faint crosshatch pattern could still be seen in all cylinders with no wear areas on pistons nor cylinders in the unknown history shortblock.

    Here is todays status:
    A) 603 heads getting cleaned/fluxed/refreshed and hardened seats option declined. (from cracked block engine)
    B) Block getting cleaned/measured/checked by shop before starting any work. (from unknown history shortblock)
    C) Used Cam getting inspected and new lifters planned. (from cracked block engine)
    D) New pushrod set in hand. Steel timing chain/gear set saved. (from unknown history shortblock)
    E) Using crank/HB/Flywheel assembly (from cracked block engine)

    Now for the Piston/Ring/Rod assemblies????

One set of piston/ring/rod assemblies came out of cracked block engine, the other from the unknown shortblock. Both sets have minor varnishing with the shortblock being a bit heavier. The shortblock reportedly sat for several years wrapped, warm, and dry. The Machine shop handling the block clean up is going to inspect the piston/ring/rod assemblies and advise.

So, what is the advice from "Da Nailhead" community???
As always, Thanx in advance for "yous" experience!

x2 on the pistons - my 66 401 with maybe 80-90 k on it had a couple timebombs just waiting to come apart on me. I never heard it run, but was told it ran beautiful, right up until the granddaughter hit a deer with the Wildcat.....

People sell around Kanter Auto Products pistons - I mean Centerville Auto Repair and others.
I bought them, they are very nice, the piston crown side is all cast (with machined top), but cast very well. Overall I think they'll work fine. Carmen Faso said they are way better than Egge.

blurry pic, but that's how they look

I decided to polish them slightly, to reduce carbon build-up. Though it's not needed in most cases...
